THE MEANING OF RESPECT

without comments

As we begin a new year, whatever new resolutions we make, there is one thing we will seek every day without fail in our lives and that is RESPECT. We talk about it a lot, we yearn for it, we expect it automatically and we notice when we haven’t been given it by others. But this word is not really understood by many people.

For example, respect is demonstrated by our actions, not our words. And when those actions are absent, especially at a trivial or simple level, there is also a distinct lack of respect. In every relationship respect goes hand-in-hand with love and commitment. You cannot love someone you don’t respect or are not prepared to commit to, even for a short time. Otherwise you will resent the time spent with them, or spent doing things on their behalf, when you could be doing something else or be with someone else. Neither can you love someone you really do not trust. Once trust is gone, the feelings become superficial as the relationship shifts in terms of both emotion and power. You would no longer respect that person, tending to be suspicious of their actions instead of celebrating and enjoying their presence.

The Six Dimensions of Respect
Often a lack of respect comes from a misunderstanding of the word. We throw around the word ‘respect’ very glibly, as a single cure-all for our feelings. But respect is not just one term. It carries six other dimensions within it:

l curiosity
2 attention
3 dialogue
4 sensitivity
4 empowerment
5 healing

If we are not really demonstrating those six concepts with regards to the one we say we respect, we are not showing them much respect at all.

Curiosity
Respect starts with curiosity. We have an interest in that person. We want to know as much about them as possible, or at least a few key things to start with. In the dating process we engineer all kinds of opportunities to satisfy that curiosity and are often mortified when we get no response from our interest and cannot fulfil our curiosity in any way. We feel frustrated, rejected and insignificant.

Attention
If curiosity is satisfied, we move to give that person our full attention. Indeed, our curiosity grows too, because that person begins to assume value in our eyes. The amount of value will depend on the way they satisfy our curiosity and attention. If the information we get is weak, unappealing or non-reinforcing, we lose interest rapidly, our attention wanes and we move towards another. However, if we perceive that the new interest aligns with us and matches us in major ways, excitement and interest both quicken. We then lavish even more attention on that person, going out of our way to attract their attention and interest.

Dialogue
Lots of attention inevitably leads to dialogue because that is the only way we can learn about our new interest. We communicate verbally as much as possible because we respect that person enough to want to hear what they have to say. We also take the greatest pleasure in conversing for its own sake. Hence much money will be spent on dates and phone calls, in particular. Where there is little respect, we are not in the least bit interested in that person and won’t even talk to them. If there is also disrespect .. for example, we made assumptions about them based upon their gender, colour, sexuality etc., .. we will go so far as to treat them negatively. We might have a dialogue at such times but it will express our anxieties, prejudices or anger, not our respect.

Sensitivity
This is at the core of respect. Accepting the person as they are without wanting to change them to suit us; fully acknowledging their values, culture, identity and who they want to be; valuing their contributions, opinions and inputs and genuinely listening to them and sharing their concerns. These are all essential elements of showing sensitivity to the person they are, and wish to be. When we put ourself and our needs first, and can only see our values, cultures and opinions, we are lacking great sensitivity to those we care for and are actually denying them respect, no matter what we say to the contrary.

Empowerment
Being curious about someone, giving our attention to, and having a dialogue with, him or her, and being sensitive to their needs represent the greatest form of empowerment we can grant to another human being. It shows we value them greatly, if we are willing to give them our attention and time, and also care about what they value. Anything else lacks respect. For example, if someone is trying to talk to you but you are busy playing on your computer, or talking to someone else on the phone, that shows little reciprocity for the respect they might be giving to you, or sensitivity to their presence and needs.

Healing
Respect has the capacity to heal, especially when we have had past experiences that have been very hurtful or traumatic, so this last dimension is important. When we have had a bad time it is very affirming to be respected and valued by the new person we are attracted to, or the people we interact with, and it is effective in speeding up the healing process. For example, if someone felt really inadequate because her man went off with a younger, more beautiful woman, a new lover in her life demonstrating how wonderful she is would give her much-needed respect and reinforcement. This would heal her pain even quicker than if she had to overcome it by herself. Respect heals because it affirms and reinforces who we are and wish to be. It also puts past hurt into perspective, or even negates it, and restores our confidence.

Respect and trust can never be taken for granted. They have to be earned because they are attributes that have to be proven. They are also directly reciprocal to the behaviour of others. For example, when we feel that we have had no respect from other people we care about, it is likely that we have given them very little respect ourselves. Most of us are sensitive to when we are not being treated with respect and are then unable to give any in its absence.

If you feel disrespected, what are you doing in the process? There is always a connection. You are either accepting substandard behaviour in order to gain approval, allowing yourself to be treated like a doormat, or you are not treating someone well enough. Once you sort out the root cause, mutual respect and trust are usually assured.

Altogether these six dimensions add up to the powerful concept of respect. When we show another human being that respect, we add an even greater experience to their life and perspectives while we too are empowered by its effects.

Boost Goal Momentum–Find Your Hidden Stopper

    without comments

Does procrastination stop you from moving forward with your goals? Sometimes the cure is as simple as finding your hidden stopper.

Sam stumbled into the kitchen, still half asleep, and grabbed the new bottle of creamer to lighten his morning coffee. Flipping open the lid, he tilted the bottle to pour out the cream?and nothing happened. He quickly identified the problem, of course, and peeled back the foil seal, hidden beneath the lid, that was keeping the cream from flowing.

Whether your goal is to prepare a tasty cup of coffee or something much more complex, you won?t succeed unless you learn to peel back the stoppers that get in your way. Often it?s as simple as recognizing what your hidden stopper is.

For most people, stoppers are habitual phrases they say to themselves right after they think ?I should . . .? or when they notice a task that needs to be tackled in service of their goals. Common stoppers are ?I?m too tired,? or ?I don?t feel like it? or ?Okay, as soon as I . . .? or ?Maybe later.?

To find which phrase or phrases you personally tend to use to thwart your goal achievement, all you have to do is ask your subconscious to notice them. As easy way to do that is simply to ask yourself, ?What stoppers do I usually use?? and wait for your mind to point them out to you. If you want to speed up the recognition, program yourself before you go to sleep at night by reminding yourself that you want to find your stoppers.

They aren?t all that hidden. You just haven?t paid any attention to them before. Now that you are aware that they are probably lurking in your behavioral repertoire, you?ll spot them quickly.

The next time you notice yourself saying a stopper phrase to yourself, immediately label it and reward your subconscious with a word of praise so it will continue pointing out to you when you use one. Just say, ?Stopper phrase! Good job!?

Then pay attention to how automatically you use the phrase as a signal to stop carrying through on the action you intended to make toward your goal. Observe how completely it brought your momentum to a halt.

After a short bit of practice, you will even find yourself becoming aware of stop signals that you haven?t verbalized to yourself. You might see a paper that needs to be filed, for instance, and catch yourself dismissing the impulse to take care of it. You didn?t repeat a stopper phrase to yourself; you just acted on a silent one. But another step toward your goal got postponed nonetheless.

Whether it?s verbalized or not, what recognizing your stopper phrase does is allow you to make a real choice instead of unconsciously reacting to a habitual pattern. When you are aware of your stop-signals, you can decide whether you really want to stop or if you are only responding to the stopper out of habit.

The more you choose to override the stopper and continue with your original intention, the weaker the stopper will become. When you take action despite the appearance of a stopper, over time you will train yourself not to bother issuing stoppers at all because they no longer work. Instead, you will begin to experience the joy of momentum and increased productivity that comes from following through with your decisions to act.
You?ll get the cream into your coffee?and accomplished goals.

    Make Money Online Self Publishing

    without comments

Originally the Music Industry Connection Book Series was published in print form. In order to increase my cash flow and revenue stream I began looking at how I might make money online self publishing. Here?s what I found:

    * The process to make money online self publishing is not hard.
    * Making money online is not a get rich quick scheme.
    * To make money online self publishing typically requires you take immediate daily action. You’ll want to get your own website. The first step is to get your own web address you may get one now by Clicking Here.
    * Typically to make money online self publishing you?ll need the following:

A burning desire, almost to the pint of obsession to succeed.
o A product like an ebook, info-product or special report to sell.
o Website, minisite, webpage or blogto sell and promote your product from.
o A way to accept credit cards online
    o An ebook marketing plan.
o A quick secure way to deliver your ebook, info-product or special report to clients.
o You?ll want to get your own domain name, url or website address. You can get your own web address today at 1and1

A burning desire is needed because you?ll undoubtedly have days, weeks even months were you are seeing little to know revenue being made. I?m not sure if your born with the capacity for burning desire to the point of obsession or not, but it seems like a prerequisite to achieve certain levels of success. You must tap into your own capacity for burning desire and apply it.

Creating a product like an ebook, info-product or special report is relatively straightforward and will afford you the opportunity to make money online self publishing. Here is what you do.

    * Write about what you know.
    * Include references and links to professionals and experts in that field, it adds credibility to your ebook, info-product or special report.

Your information can be as short or long as you want. To ensure value for your readers, your writing should do one or more of the following:

    * Solve a problem
    * Answer a question
    * Tell a compelling story
    * Give credible references and resources

In our micro-wave society we tend to want what we want, how we want it, when we want it. Give readers this, market your e-product daily almost to the point of obsession and you will position yourself to make money online self publishing.

This is meant to either get you started or get your creative juices flowing so you can create and implement a practical plan for your ebook, info-product, special report or self published paper back book. Remember your plan need not be elaborate for you to achieve success. It does call for you to take immediate daily action.

    The Key to Better Golf

    without comments

Golf experts do agree on something. It?s not possible to play a good stroke if your balance isn?t maintained throughout the swing. Keeping your balance sounds pretty simple. But it?s nigh impossible when you have a death grip on the club, your arms and shoulders are stiff and you?re trying to hit the ball with every ounce of strength can muster.

Beginners are often warned to not try to hit the ball so hard. A little energy well directed and smoothly applied will drive the ball father than a monstrous effort that ends up not connecting the ball at the center of the club. If you?re balanced, you have more freedom when hitting the ball.

You want to keep your head in one spot, your eyes on the ball clearly. Actually the steadier you keep your head in one spot, the better you see the ball. This is all part of creating your foundation of balance. Anything that tips you off balance makes it impossible to see the ball clearly. You must keep your head still and not move it from the spot in which you start.

You can?t have your body rigid and your muscles tensed if you?re wanting to maintain your balance. Unless you relax your muscles, your head is going to move.

Practice in front of a mirror and you will see that your muscles really do need to be relaxed in order for you to keep your head still during a swing. No two people have the same frame or physique. So you have to work out some things for yourself. But always start with the foundation of keeping your head in one position. If your head is still, you can see the ball clearly and you will turn your hands at the right instant.

Just by keeping your head perfectly still you?ll correct a lot of faults. You can?t grip your club incorrectly without at some point disturbing your balance and moving your head. And you can?t keep your balance unless you follow through correctly.

If your mind is concentrated on keeping your balance and keeping your head still, you won?t overswing or jerk your club away. You won?t put forth too much effort forth at any one point. You won?t be stiff and you?ll have a smooth, even rhythm to your swing and a nice finish.

Balance really is the cure-all for many faults of golf. It takes time before you see improvement, so be patient. Think about keeping your head still and maintaining your balance at all times and you will have a foundation for an excellent golf game.

Dish Network and HDTV – The Perfect Mix

    without comments

The latest crazy when it comes to TV has been the introduction and expansion of HDTV or high definition TV. More and more programs and even stations in their entirety are being offered in high definition. High definition TV means that there is a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, increased resolution and multi-channel sound. What does this translate too? It translates to you getting up a sharper picture by approximately six times. That is right a six times sharper image than you get with regular TV. HDTV is also offered in a widescreen ratio so you are getting the entire picture instead of an edited for TV version.

That means you get to see the show as it was meant to be seen and Dish Network offers packages with over 30 channels in High definition. There are other differences as well for example HDTV programming lets you feel like youre sitting in the movies and with surround sound you can not only view the action at its finest but hear it as well.

High definition television does require additional or different equipment than regular TV does. To start a television that accepts HDTV signals is required. There may also be additional equipment that needs to be purchased or obtained from Dish network in order to receive the stations. Dish Network offers several choices in receives for high definition TV.

The great thing about Dish Network HDTV is that not only do you get your choice of HDTV stations but also you can choose from over thirty different stations. That equals a lot of programming. Of course you do not just get all HDTV you also get with your Dish network HDTV package a listing of standard viewing stations.

So what are the advantages of picking Dish Network HDTV? Affordability for starters, most cable providers charge a small fortune for only a few HDTV channels but with Dish network all, the packages that contain HDTV stations are very affordable and as more stations and programming becomes available in High definition it seems that High definition will become even more affordable as time goes on.

The second advantage is that with Dish network you have your choice of packages. These packages, offer as many as thirty high definition stations. Of course, the price ranges based on the package but options are available. That is one of the things that make Dish Network high definition a great choice for high definition entertainment.

There are the disadvantages, which come in the form of the television itself while prices have dropped purchasing a TV that has High definition capabilities can still be expensive.

There is also the additional or different receiver that allows you to receive high definition television. However, the advantages make up for the disadvantages of having High definition television. Why not check out Dish network and its offers for High definition programming. Dish Network offers packaging options that can fit your viewing preferences at prices that will not break your pocketbook.

How to Make Money Selling on eBay – Sales Got You Down?

    without comments

If you are just starting to learn how to make money selling on eBay then likely you have run into problems as your business has started to grow. Possibly you have found that you cannot sell any more of the product that you started with. Possibly you have reached a sales plateau and no matter how many you list the item there just don?t seem to be any extra sales to be found.

What actions should you take when that happens? How can you continue to build you business to higher sales levels? How can you make money selling on eBay? It all starts with research and gaining an understanding.

There are really two different questions to ask yourself when you reach a sales decrease or plateau. First, have you taken a great new product and just gotten about all the sales that you can from that one product? Second is the marketplace simply telling you that while there are sales for your product, have you reached the maximum for that specific product? The challenge for you is to find the right answer. That answer is critical as it will help you understand how to make money selling on eBay into the future.

As you examine whether your product is now mature and no more sales growth can be expected for your product really look at your history with the product. Was it a new product to the marketplace when you started selling? Was there something special happening (Manufacturer marketing campaigns, a shortage or is it a seasonal item and you started just as the season was approaching for example.) that made buyers want to grab it as soon as it was available? If you can identify something in the marketplace that made sales higher then look at future prospects for that extra boost in sales returning. If that is not the case, consider diversification by adding new items to sell.

After examining the first question move on to examine the second question. If the marketplace is indeed telling you that sales have flattened because the market is saturated you will know that you cannot achieve additional sales of that product on eBay. If that happens how to make money selling on eBay becomes a big question. Options include moving into other sales outlets or just accepting that sales are as great as they will ever be. It may be time to look into adding new products as a means of growing business sales to the next level.

If sales slow or flatten at a specific level it is time for the eBay entrepreneur to really examine the causes. To make money selling on eBay requires that sales growth must continue. Identify the problem and then respond accordingly.

    To Your eBay Success!

The Top Five Business Gifts Companies Give

    without comments

When it comes to marketing and promotions, business gifts companies know what works and what sells. From inexpensive handouts at trade fairs and events, to the top executive gifts and incentives, here are the top five business gifts as defined by some of the most well known business gifts companies in the industry.

    Calendars
A full 45% of companies say that they send out a business calendar to their customers each year. It?s an oldie but goodie in the promotional items field. A calendar is useful throughout the year, and it keeps your business name in front of your customer 365 days out of 365 days.

Just because it?s traditional, though, doesn?t mean it should be boring. There?s a wide range of calendar styles available, from basic wall calendars to calendar pads for desktops to easel calendars. Choose one that is distinctive and interesting, and you can be sure that it will be used.

    Company Branded Items
Giving a holiday gift that has your company?s logo on it may be seen as self-serving, so choosing logo-branded items can be a fine line. If you choose to give gifts with your company?s logo or brand name on it, it?s important to make it something personal and unique. Experts in gift giving say that it?s important to separate gift giving from marketing, and nothing shows lack of care quite so much as sending out coffee mugs with your business imprint on it ? unless you take the time to make it personal. Include a packet of favorite teas or an assortment of gourmet coffee and biscuits, and the mug becomes an addition to the gift rather than the main gift itself. And the addition will sit on a desk long past the original gift is consumed and forgotten.

    Desk Items
Many companies give items designed to sit on the desktop as gifts for thank yous and holidays. Some of these make especially nice gifts for employees. A sleek, elegant business card holder discreetly engraved with your company logo is a tasteful gift that will find a place on the desktop of your employees.

    Wine
If you?re considering giving wine as a corporate holiday gift, then you?re in good company. About 7% of small business owners say that they?ve given bottles of wine as a holiday gift to associates. You can make an extra splash with a gift of wine when you order a case of a special vintage labeled with your own company label and holiday wishes.

    Small Electronics and Office Gifts
Among the most popular gifts as thank you, holiday and incentive bonuses are small electronics promotional items. They range from calculators that bear the company logo to small USB flash drives. Company branded radios, cameras and other electronic gadgets carry a high perceived value, and can be extremely cost effective when you order them in bulk.

No matter what type of gift you?re looking for, you?ll find a wide range of business gift ideas at Ideasbynet one of the UK?s leading business gifts companies.

    Dunhuang and the Silk Road

    without comments

The oasis town of Dunhuang. was in a fertile area known for its melons and grapes in particular – and because it became a major staging post for traders and for missionary monks and pilgrims of Buddhism and other religions. It was one of the four garrison commentaries that assured Chinese control over the trade routes to the western regions. Dunhuang was considered a place of importance when it was under the control of the Western Xia kingdom (990-1227) and the Mongol Yuan dynasty (1271-1368). From the time of the Han to the end of the Yuan, a most important trade route developed from China to the West, which later became known by the marvelously evocative name, The Silk Road. The ancient traveler leaving China along this road would pass through Dunhuang before braving the many hazards of the journey westwards through East Turkestan (present-day Xinjiang). Dunhuang has a special place in history because of its location close to the parting of the northern and southern routes that skirted the impassable Taklamakan desert. Silk was traded along this seven thousand kilometer braid of caravan trails from China right across Asia to the eastern Roman Empire on the shores of the Mediterranean, and also to south Asia. Persian and Sogdian merchants traveled the whole length, and were such familiar sights in the Chinese capitals Chang’an (present-day Xi’an) and Luoyang that they can frequently be found. This route was also used by Buddhist monks from China and Korea traveling west in search of images and scriptures, and by ambassadors and princes from the west making the long journey to China. It was by means of the Silk Road that all manner of exotic imports reached China, as diplomatic gifts or through trade, and mainly in exchange for silks: vessels made of gold and silver and the techniques for working these metals; fine glass; fragrances and spices; exotic animals such as lions and ostriches; new fruits such as grapes; dancers, musicians and their instruments. After the splendors of the Tang dynasty, however, trade along the Silk Road was severely curtailed, and Dunhuang was left in isolation. Later trade between China and Europe was entirely by sea.

Acne Skin Care Products – Which one to choose?

    without comments

Avoiding a yeast infection is about controlling the environment around the body so that it is able to stay dry. Avoid douching and using feminine products like wipes or sprays. Avoid bubble baths and soaking in soapy water as it can alter the ph in the vagina. If you wear tight clothes with nylon pantyhose or other similar non-breathable materials, try alternating them with loose fitting clothing and cotton underwear. Cotton is a more breathable fabric and will allow the body to stay drier. If you go swimming or participate in strenuous activities that involve heavy perspiration, it is important to change into dry clothes as soon as possible. During sexual intercourse, use a condom for extra protection and also to avoid spreading a yeast infection to your partner.

Yeast infections usually are treated with medicine that you put into your vagina. This medicine may be a cream or a suppository that you put into your vagina with a special applicator. Medicine in a cream form also can be put on your vulva to help stop the itching. Medicine in a pill form that you take by mouth is also available. However, natural treatments without the use of medications are much more effective and provide a permanent cure.

Diet is important in the treatment of the disease. Changing your diet alone can be of great help to completely get rid of the candida infection. Also, Do not just take any antibiotic without any prescription from a doctor. Antibiotics and cortisone-type prescriptions should not be taken as possible, as some of these drugs are harmful and can increase the growth of these microorganisms.

Most women would love to know if there was a natural yeast infection cure. If your yeast infection is not that serious, you can treat it naturally. There are a lot of ways and steps on how to prevent yeast infections from occurring.

Vaginal Yeast infection in women is very common. Yeasts or Candida fungus are minute organisms that live in small numbers on human body. Yeast infection occurs when the number of these organisms increases beyond a certain level. Typically, the acidity in the vagina keeps the level of yeast low. But with the drop in the acidity level due to various conditions like menstruation period, pregnancy, diabetes or birth control pills, yeast grows and causes the infection.

There is a proven connection between systemic yeast infection and chronic fatigue syndrome. Candidiasis is also responsible for skin infections and causes chronic vaginal yeast infections.

Over-the-counter medicated treatments cures the majority of yeast infections, however they can be only temporary treatments. The yeast infections may come back, even worse than before. Many people who use natural treatments report never having another yeast infection again. This is probably because the natural, holistic methods listen to the body and gets to the root of problem, while the creams temporarily kill candida in the vagina, which is always present in the body anyway.

Apache on the Internet is not an Indian Tribe

    without comments

Statistics show that as of October 2006, the percentage of websites hosted on Apache server is 61.64% of all websites. Another interesting statistic is that in the October 2006 survey, the total number of websites reported was almost 98 million sites. This number grew from September to October by 1.08 million.

More amazing statistics on web growth is that the first ten months of 2006 is outpacing the same period for 2005. 2006 added 23.9 millions sites in the first ten months compared with 17.1 million for the same period in 2005. If this growth rate holds in the last two months of 2006, the total sites could top 100 million by the end of the year. Read more on these statistics at http://news.netcraft.com/archives/web_server_survey.html.

Enough statistics. We started the statistics discussion to talk about Apache!

Apache server is the leading server for hosting websites on the Net. Second place is Microsoft IIS (Internet Information Services) at 31.26%. Apache is open source software which means it is free. If you want to download Apache and use it you can do so.

Read the Wikipedia definition of Apache server. The derivation of the name is amusing. The logo for the server is an Indian feather which seems fitting for the name. However, the amusing part is that the development team that built Apache came from another server project. It seems that they collaborated on building Apache, and they did a lot of software patches to the server in the process. You guessed it! They called it ?a patchy server?. Hence, the name Apache.

The webmaster for a website uses a ?control panel? to interfaces with the Apache server. The format of the control panel interface may vary from web host to web host. Some control panels are text and some are icon based. However, the functions that the control panel provides are the same.

For more information about Apache server, read the detailed article about Apache posted on the Boomer Video eZine at http://www.boomer-ezine.com/V1I27_101306.htm.

Do you know what server is running your website?
