Exploring the various types of Interest Charges

without comments

The interest charge for your personal credit cards is figured by the current amount of your balance on your credit card account and the APR or Annual Percentage Rate you are being charged for. Credit card issuers tend to use one of several methods to determine your interest and/or finance charges. The end game of theses various types is not the same; so it is best to know the differences literally. The finance charge is the dollar amount you pay to use credit. The amount depends in part on your outstanding balance and the APR.

Credit card companies use one of several methods to calculate the outstanding balance. The method can make a big difference in the finance charge you’ll pay. Your outstanding balance may be calculated using the adjusted balance, previous balance (sometimes referred to as two-cycle), or the average daily balance as the reference point. Check your card agreements terms if new purchases and/or cash advances are also included or excluded as this varies from provider to provider.

The average daily balance is the most common calculation method for interest and or finance charge rates. Every morning usually in the billing period, the balance is updated with credits or refunds. With some credit card issuers, any new purchases are also added. When the end of the billing cycle comes around, daily balances are added and divided by the number of days in the billing cycle to arrive at the “average daily balance.”

The adjusted balance method is the most beneficial method for cardholders. Credits received during the current billing cycle are deducted from the balance at the end of the previous billing cycle. Cash Advances you may of received made during the period for the billing usually are not reflected on the total. Basically, if you pay your bill before the end of the billing cycle you don’t get stuck with finance charges.

With the previous or two-cycle balance method, the average daily balance is figured from two billing cycles rather than a single one. This tends to increase the finance charges one must usually pay. There is no grace period involved with this method and if you don’t pay the amount due in full, the charges may be made retroactive back to the time of the original purchase.

It is also important to note that many credit cards also carry a minimum finance charge. Regardless if your calculated finance charge is lower, you will still be required to pay this charge. However, if no purchases or cash advances have been made during the duration of the billing cycle, generally you will not be assessed and charges. Nevertheless it is generally wiser to check the particular card in question’s terms of service and fee schedule.

    Craft Show Tax Season

    without comments

With a little creativity and stellar bookkeeping, you can make the job of figuring out taxes a whole lot easier. Here are a few tips to make the tax process easier, and a couple of ways you might consider to save some money in the end:

The cost of doing business ? Keep the receipts for anything that you have to spend money on related to running your business. This means everything from the gas in your vehicle (usually calculated with a set mileage amount), to production costs, right to the professional advice you seek for helping you with your taxes. These are all costs related to your craft show business and building your crafts, and they can be deducted from the overall gross income you have made during the year.

Hire a professional ? Whether you hire a tax accountant, or a tax lawyer to provide you with the guidelines for calculating and filing your taxes ? they will provide you with a wealth of knowledge and expertise to help you keep as much money in your pocket and out of the greedy grasp of the tax man. Most professionals are not going to charge you a fortune, and can often find numerous ways to help you lower your overall tax bill.

When in doubt, keep track of it ? You don’t always know the ways that your tax accountant can help you. If you are wondering about whether you can claim a certain expense for your craft show business, then you should probably err on the side of caution. This way, you aren’t going to kick yourself for something that could have saved you more money.

Be diligent in your records ? It is important to put yourself in the same mindset to save money as you are in to make it: that means the little things count. If you blow off one craft show expense because you think it is minimal, imagine if you did that 4 times per month ? that’s nearly 50 times per year! All of those ?little’ craft show expenses can amount to a lot of savings at the end of the year!

Who enjoys paying taxes on their small business? No one! That’s why you need to take this part of running your craft show business as serious as you would the money making part. By being prepared, and knowing how you can limit the amount you are required to give back to the government ? through good accounting and knowledge of the claims you can make as a business owner ? you are going to save yourself a great deal of money at the end of the year.

    Coffee Machines

    without comments

Great Coffee Machines for Coffee Drinking Machines

My wife is a coffee nut (or bean, if you prefer) of the highest order. And I’m not much different. This means we’re always experimenting with new methods of brewing different varieties of coffee bean. In the space of the few years we have been together, we have been through more coffee pots than Gza Gza Gabor has been through husbands (is she actually married at the moment?). We’ve tried: French Presses espresso and cappuccino machines regular perculators filter machines coffee pots that defy description. In fact, so many have vied for space on our crowded countertop that I’m struggling to picture them all as I write. However, we may well have found the ultimate coffee machine combination that meets both our needs. Finally.

The Mimalist’s French Press Coffee Machine

I’m a cappuccino afficianodo, but my wife is more minimalist in her tastes, and prefers to hunker down with a smooth black brew. Although it wasn’t long ago I remember her sipping Vienna M?lange, heavy on the chocolate, since she started design school she has streamlined her habits. Now she employs a one-cup Bodum French press. This produces coffee of industrial strength with a caffeine content high enough to revive a dead donkey. It also looks great on the counter top, and its diminutive size leaves plenty of space for our other current coffee brewing experiments. The size has another advantage. French press coffee machines aren’t partcularly good at keeping the coffee warm for very long. In fact, after ten minutes, it’s already verging on the undrinkable, so having a coffee machine that only makes enough coffee for one cup means you get a great-tasting optimal cup of coffee every time. It is, however, fiddly to clean, and my wife is not one to encumber her life with meagre cleaning tasks before whizzing out of the door to work every morning. I, on the other hand, work from home. I get to poke that French press mesh with my washing up brush a little more often than I would choose to in a perfect world.

    The Grinder/Coffee Pot Combo

We went through a phase of trying out grinder/brewer combos. This was largely my fault as I’m a stickler for grinding my own coffee beans so they are fresh for each brew. While the coffee pots functioned as they should, I was never really 100% satisfied with the grinder elements. They didn’t allow enough control over how fine or grainy the beans could be ground, they warmed the beans – especially if I was preparing coffee for a lot of people – and they tended to be very noisy. Stand-alone grinders win hands down every time.

Pleasing All the People All of the Time – at least at Home.

At the moment we have returned to using a stand-alone coffee grinder that suits both our requirements. My wife uses her Bodum French press with a course- grained bean, and I am fortunate to have a Gaggia coffee machine that takes a finer grained bean, makes all the right noises, fills the kitchen with the finest aroma known to man and makes the milk foamy and stiff, just right for the perfect capuccino. And I can always re-steam the milk if I want another cup later on, so there’s no danger of leaving the coffee on a hotplate and burning it, which is handy because contrary to my wife I believe that one cup is never enough.

    General Panama Information

    without comments

Situated between Costa Rica (in the northwest) and Columbia (in the southeast), Panama is a small country that has a total land area of 29,157 square miles. On the list of the world?s largest country, it is placed 118th. It is the smallest Spanish speaking country in Latin America in terms of population with a little over 3 million people. Panama is shaped like a small letter ‘n’ though a little skewered and it is a ‘bridge’ between Central America and South America.

If you think about Panama, you will most likely think of sun and sea. Panama is blessed with long wonderful stretches of sandy beaches along its north and south coast so it has become a favorite romantic getaway for tourists who like the sun and sea. However, Panama has other attractions as well. Near the Costa Rican end, there is a mountain range which extends up to 6,500 feet. In the Chiriqui district, you can find some volcanoes, the largest of which is called Baru. This region is mainly used for agricultural purposes and is quite cold. If you plan to visit these parts, please be advised to bring the appropriate clothing.

Panama was a Spanish colony up to 28 November 1821. It was also under Columbian rule until 3 November 1903. Now, it is a fully independent country. Due to its past, Panamanians still speak Spanish and much of its early culture can be traced to Spanish influences. In recent years, Panama has seen an increase in the arrival of Africans, Chinese, Jewish, Hindus and other races. Panama prides itself as the banking and economical center of Latin America because of its strategic location. With the coming of these new people, the Panamanian culture is slowly evolving to stamp its own distinct path. A good example is traditional Panamanian music which is unique in itself.

The capital of Panama is Panama City with a population of about a million people. It is a sprawling city of fantastic sights and sounds. If you think Panama is a sleepy little village, a visit to Panama City will surprise you. In terms of modern buildings, Panama City is comparable to some famous cities like San Francisco or Miami. Situated around the Atlantic side of the canal, Colon is the biggest free trade zone in the Western Hemisphere. Colon is accountable for the majority of Panama’s export and import activities.

Since Christopher Columbus first navigated the Atlantic side of Panama, it had been noted that Panama was an important port of transfer. In older days, Panama was used primarily as a transit port where gold and other commodities were transported from other Spanish colonies in South America to Spain and vice versa. Though Panama is still used as a transit port, it has grown in other areas as well. The Panama banking, commercial and tourism industries have been well established to reap bountiful fruits for Panama. As Panama opens her door to more foreign investment, the future economical landscape seems extremely promising.

    Menopause And Osteoporosis

    without comments

Estrogen is an important hormone that is required to maintain bone strength. During menopause, the ovaries stop producing estrogen. Over the next several years, bones become progressively weaker. A woman may lose up to ten percent of her total bone mass in the first five years after menopause. If this weakening of the bones continues unchecked, it may progress to osteoporosis and to fractures. Osteoporosis is diagnosed by using a specialized x-ray technique, DEXA, which measures the extent of bone loss that has occurred.

It is estimated that as many as half of all women over the age of 60 have at least one bone fracture due to osteoporosis. Sometimes, such fractures may cause prolonged periods of immobilization or require surgical treatment, both of which are associated with an increased risk of further health complications.

There are several ways a woman can act to reduce the bone loss that follows menopause. It is recommended that women take at least 1 gram of calcium every day, either in the form of calcium supplements, or increased servings of dairy products. Calcium is absorbed more efficiently in the presence of sufficient vitamin D; up to 30 minutes of exposure to sunlight each day can ensure that the skin will produce vitamin D.

Bones remain stronger for longer if the muscles attached to them are exercised regularly. Weight-bearing exercise, such as walking or dancing, is recommended at least several times a week. High-impact activities should be avoided.

There are several treatments, including hormone replacement therapy, which can be taken to limit bone loss. However, hormone replacement therapy may not suit everyone and has side effects. There is no residual protection against future bone loss once such therapy is discontinued. Several other treatments are currently being evaluated to treat menopausal symptoms and to slow down bone loss.

    Direct Car Insurance Made Easy

    without comments

Direct Car Insurance is the option of buying your car insurance directly from an authorized insurance company instead of going through insurance middlemen and independent agents.

To explain let us take this example. If you are sick with pain in your joints, there are two options you can choose from. You either go to a general practitioner and he would recommend certain medicines that would ease your pain. Or, you proceed directly to an orthopedic specialist, one who specializes in illnesses related to the bones of the human body. Chances are that the bone specialist would be able to diagnose the exact nature of your ailment and prescribe maybe some medicines or exercises that will at once have better effect on your condition. The general practitioner would probably have an idea about your actual condition but may not be in a position to accurately treat it.

Something similar happens when you choose a direct car insurance policy over an indirect car insurance policy. One may argue that it is far easier to get quotes and information on car insurance policies from multiple indirect sources, as there are plenty in the car insurance market. It may also be a better idea as these indirect car insurers offer a wide variety of services in order to keep their car insurance policies better than the rest.

This is however not without its associated costs. Remember middlemen and independent agents and such indirect car insurers are in a business and not providing you the service out of charity. They obviously are looking for their profits. While on the look of it you may be offered multiple services at some good prices, you must never forget that you are paying a higher rate for the same. The independent car insurance agents are putting in their profits into the quote. The larger these independent car insurance companies are, the higher the hidden costs.

The direct car insurance agencies, on the other hand have their benefits. If you go at first to a direct car insurance company, you will directly be in touch with the car insurance provider itself. These direct car insurance providers are usually large companies which have in house services like emergency pick up vehicles, tie ups with official car service centers, legal advisors and such important services. What happens here is that these direct car insurance providers may not have to outsource their services to other car insurance agencies? Even if they do, they have clear and set procedures that are outlined. This removes the reasons for inordinate delays in providing emergency car services, settling claims and providing interim relief through rent a car services etc.

When you buy a policy from a direct car insurance agency you also save on costs. You can get cheaper car insurance with some very good facilities. Remember it is not the amount of services that you can get but whether those services can be used when you need them.

You may even be able to work out cheaper premiums for flexible periodic payments as well when you go to direct car insurance agencies. And to top it off you may even get some free extra covers along with your standard cover as well. These come in handy and end up saving you some money at a later stage. For example you may get free extended territorial cover or the direct car insurance agency may offer extended legal liability to family members. These would be specific to the district of residence of course.

There are some direct car insurance agencies that also offer you a better premium if you insure more than one car with them. This really gets you a good reduction in your associated costs and it always helps if there is just one direct car insurance agency that has to be co-coordinated with at all times.

There are quite a few car insurance companies which provide direct car insurance and you may need to shop around a little before you actually make your decision. This will also give you adequate knowledge about what the direct car insurance agencies are offering in the car insurance market. So remember, going in for direct car insurance is in the larger picture more beneficial to your pocket!

Use a Paralegal professional and save legal fees

    without comments

It is true to say that in the year 2007, the cost of legal aid has become so expensive that it is fast becoming out of the reach of most individuals and small businesses. This introduces significant problems to people and small companies which find themselves in the situation where they need to get expert legal advice. One option is the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) approach. This approach might work well when remodeling the house or servicing your car, but is fraught with dangers and difficulties when you need to deal with something as complex as the law. Getting it wrong can end up costing you, or your company, a lot of money. It can lead to bankruptcy, or worse still – a conviction and jail term.

Another solution is to use the services of those legal professionals who are not lawyers or attorneys but are still well trained in all aspects of law – the Paralegals. To enter the legal profession, paralegals undergo thorough training, often at law schools and universities, and need to register with various legal authorities who then issue them with a license permitting them to practice.

A common misconception is that you, the prospective client, cannot engage the services of a paralegal directly and need to first consult with lawyers or attorneys. This is just not true. There is nothing stopping you from seeking the assistance of a paralegal in the first instance.

Paralegals can do pretty much everything which attorneys and lawyers do except appearing in court and providing legal opinion. In fact when you engage the services of lawyers or attorneys, the chances are that they will have outsourced much of the research work to a paralegal anyway. Go direct to the paralegal and save!

As in the case of any legal professional consultation, the paralegal will meet with the client to conduct a preliminary interview. At the conclusion of this interview, the paralegal may decide that he/she is not suited to help you and would refer you to an attorney or lawyer for assistance. The very last thing a paralegal wants is to get into a situation where he can be sued by you for negligence. In this case it is best to cut your losses, pay the paralegal fee, and seek expert advice from a lawyer or attorney.

But if the paralegal decides that he can help you, you can be assured of getting expert legal advice for the fraction of the cost of the same advice from the more expensive lawyer or attorney.

    3 Law of Attraction Tactics

    without comments

Today, I’m going to discuss three tactics that you can start using today to invoke the Law of Attraction in your life. These three things are easy to do and won’t cost you a dime.

    Positive Attitude

This one is pretty simple. Proponents of the Law of Attraction maintain that living in a perpetually positive state of mind will attract positive influences (some like to call them “vibrations”) in the world that will fuel positive changes in their lives. Whether these changes come in the form of circumstances that put you in a better, more successful place or opportunities that will bring success later in life, maintaining a positive attitude is going to help bring them about.

I like to think of this as mental preparation. Keeping up a positive attitude mentally prepares you to better handle things in life, as well as helping to align you for success.

Think about it: if you only focus on the negative, you’re never in the appropriate mindset necessary to appreciate the things you DO have in life – and you can’t use those things to move forward. For example, say you’re driving a junky car. You hate this car. Every time you hop into it in the morning to drive to work, you glare at it. It’s not pretty, it causes you problems, maybe it smells funny – whatever. You hate this car. But it’s the only care you have, and you can’t quite afford to get the better car you wish you had. During your morning commute, as you drive along the highway, you always notice all the nicer vehicles on the road. You see the guy in the tricked-out SUV, and you wish that was yours. By the time you get to work, you’re already in a foul mood and it shows.

So you have a crappy car.

    So what?

Utilizing a positive attitude – your mental preparation – is useful in this instance. Rather than concentrating on how much you hate your ugly car, remind yourself that even if it’s ugly, it still gets you to work. In fact, you’re LUCKY to have a car at all. You don’t have to stand out in the rain, waiting for the bus. You don’t have to walk to work in the freezing cold of winter or the blazing heat of summer. Even if the car is a mess, at least it’s got climate control inside.

By appreciating your junk-mobile, even just a little, you are creating a more positive environment in your life – and maybe that positive environment will allow you to be in just a little better mood when you get to work in the morning, which will, in turn, allow you to perform better, which will eventually lead you to the raise that will allow you to buy your tricked-out SUV.

Or maybe not, but at least you’re not hating life at 7:30 AM every morning because your car smells funny. And that’s a positive in and of itself.

    Visualization

Proponents of the Secret/Law of Attraction are big on visualization. By visualizing yourself where you want to be in life, you will attract those “vibrations” necessary to get yourself to that place. Some Secret teachers even say to go one step further and utilize “holographic visualization,” which basically means that, along with mentally seeing yourself in a certain situation in life, you need to also emotionally put yourself there. You need to see these visions so clearly in your mind that it almost seems as if you are actually there.

    Car Wash Systems

    without comments

Over the years, since the first car wash Automated Laundry in 1914, automated car wash bays have developed into an immense number of systems, each competing with the other for profits and customer satisfaction. The U.S. has 66,000 fixed car wash bays and 12,000 mobile car wash units ? Full-Service, Drive-Through, Coin-Operated, Flex-Service, Quick-Service and Mobile-Operated car washes are only a few in the competitive market. But all the categories can be classified under four basic systems, roughly termed as self serve, drive through, roll over and full service.

The most basic, of course is the self-serve car wash, where you coin-operate the system yourself and choose the cleaning functions for your car. These use timers to shut off water and soap after a particular time and charge extra for more water. But people don?t very often find space and time to go for self service and hence, the drive-through car wash bays have become the most popular systems in the country. These systems are operated by conveyor belts, and the cars go through different stages of cleaning, like rinsing, soaping, waxing and drying, at particular points in the conveyor.

The rollover systems are found next to gas stations and use unique electronic equipment that sprays water, detergent and wax over the car without using any brushes. The most expensive is the full-service system, which uses both electronic and hand car wash systems to give your car a thorough cleaning, both inside and outside. While your car passes through the conveyor belt, men flit in and out of your car at regular intervals to clean its interiors as well. This system also includes what is popularly known as the detail shop, which washes the car using machines or men before the employees polish and wax the car using a buffer. This is an extremely effective car wash system, as it takes off even small scratches.
