Let Google’s Algorithm Show You The Traffic
Recently Rand Fishkin of Seomoz.org brought together 37 of the world’s Top SEO experts to tackle Google’s Algorithm, the complex formula and methods Google uses to rank web pages. This ranking formula is extremely important to webmasters because finding which factors Google uses to rank their index is often considered the Holy Grail of site optimization.
Google’s ranking factors affect how and where you are listed in their search engine results or SERPs. Since obtaining top positions for your targeted keywords often spells success for your site, knowing Google’s ranking factors can be very beneficial.
Every experienced webmaster will know Google is the main supplier of search engine traffic on the web, getting listed on the first page or anywhere in the top 10 positions for popular keywords will result in plenty of free quality targeted traffic.
Briefly listed below are some of the main ranking factors you should be optimizing your web pages for in your marketing. The majority of these ranking factors will be very familiar to most webmasters who take full advantage of any and every SEO tactic which will give their site an edge over their competition.
Here are some of the main ranking factors to consider:
1. Keywords In Your Title And On Your Page
Place your keyword or keyword phrase in the title of your page and also in your copy. Many webmasters use variations of their keywords on this page and also include it in the H1 headline.
2. Keywords In Your URL
Keep your page on topic and place your keyword in the URL. Use your keyword in the H2, H3… headlines. Place it in the description and meta tags, place it in bold/strong tags, but keep your content readable and useful. Be aware of the text surrounding your keywords, search engines will become more semantic in the coming years so context is important.
3. Create High Quality Relevant Content
Have high quality relevant content on your pages. Your content should be related to the topic of your site and updated regularly depending on the nature of your site.
4. Internal Onsite Linking
Internal linking is important to your overall ranking. Make sure your linking structure is easy for the spiders to crawl. Most suggest a simple hierarchy with links no more than three clicks away from your home/index page.
Creating traffic modes or clusters of related links within a section on your site has proven very effective for many webmasters, including this one. For example, creating a simple online guide on a subject related to your site’s topic can prove very beneficial. Keep all the links connected and closely related in subject matter and don’t forget to have occasional external ‘anchor keyworded’ links coming to these internal links on your site instead of to your homepage. Deep build your links.
5. Only Linking To High Quality Related Sites
Don’t forget to link to high quality PR related sites. Linking to high quality sites shows the search engines your site is very useful to your visitors. Build relationships within communities on the topic of your site. Be extremely careful not to link to bad neighborhoods, link farms and spam sites… when in doubt, don’t link out!
Prostate Cancer – What You Don’t Know Might Kill You!
Here’s the one fact that all men need to understand: Early prostate cancer detection is the difference between living and dying as far as prostate cancer is concerned.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that cancer is one of the leading causes of death. What you may not have realized is that cancer is the second leading cause of death for men and prostate cancer is a very major contributor.
The reason for this is that prostate cancer can expand beyond the prostate gland and travel to other parts of the body. So a highly treatable cancer in the prostate is ignored and kill it grows into other parts of the body and becomes much more deadly.
The sad part is that doctors are able to detect prostate cancer in its very early stages. To complicate matters however, there are a few symptoms that are directly associated with prostate cancer alone. This in turn causes many men to simply ignore common symptoms until prostate cancer grows beyond the gland and becomes a seriously life threatening cancer.
The good news is that this disease is a slow progressive type of cancer while still localized in the prostate. A person can have prostate cancer for years and not know it if they don’t undergo several very simple diagnostic tests. These tests become even more important, as you age. Men with no family history of prostate cancer should be tested yearly. Black men and those with a family member who has had prostate cancer should consider annual testing at age 40.
Prostate cancer screening tests are simple and inexpensive.
+ Digital Rectal Examination + PSA Blood test. Measures levels of Prostate-Specific Antigen a key prostate cancer marker.
Your chance of survival and cure is directly related to early detection, diagnosis and treatment. Consistent testing will dramatically increase the chances of early detection before it becomes serious.
Another benefit of early detection is that the treatment options are much less radical. Earlier treatment methods are much more successful in not only curing prostate cancer but also limiting the complications and side effects of more aggressive treatment options.
If you haven’t been insisting on a prostate exam and blood test for prostate cancer indicators, you owe it to yourself and your family to start now. Don’t make the mistake of assuming symptoms may be simply due to your age. Prostate cancer is a serious illness that needs to be identified as soon as possible.
So at your next annual physical, make certain that basic prostate cancer screening tests are done. This is one of the key ways that you can make certain you life cancer free as long as possible.
What is the Equal Pay Act?
Under the Equal Pay Act or 1963, any employee, whether male or female, must be given substantially equal work that requires equal skill, effort and responsibility and are carried out under similar working conditions, and the compensation must be substantially equal as well. The law was formulated and brought into effect as a result of years of outcries and proposals from different labor and women’s rights groups seeking for fair treatment and compensation in the workplace. The Equal Pay Act is just but one of the many progresses of women’s advocacy towards gender equality in the society. Although the Equal Pay Act is still subject to the scope and exceptions of covered employees and employers contained within the act, it is considered as the first step towards and adjustment of balance in pay for women.
Many cases involving the Equal Pay Act revolve on how people get work that requires more effort and more responsibility but is paid the same as the work that requires less. There are also issues regarding pay inequality between men and women. There are certain factors that affect inequality of employment, particularly in third-world countries where domestic politics, culture and religious differences play a big role in pay disparity between both sexes.
But since the Equal Pay Act has been enacted, the workplace had changed to become less discriminate against women and they have become a primordial force of manpower in big companies today. Women are given the opportunity to get the same working conditions as with men, and they have a bigger participation in labor relations. What hasn’t changed much since the law was enacted is the wage gap. Although the disparity between the wages of men and women has narrowed since 1963, women still earn only 81% of what men earn in 2005.
The progress is slow; nevertheless the momentum of change is still ongoing. Figures and statistics show that in the coming decades, there is a clear possibility of a reversal on gender wage gap, where women will outearn men eventually. The transition is quite slow at this time, but very dramatic. In the end, women will eventually reach the goal of this act, where cases of wage and living standards depression will be irrelevant, as sex-based pay discrimination may become an obsolete picture of employment culture.

RSS Feed and Blog Etiquette
Citizen journalists and writers have become common place on the web. Perhaps you are considering blogging, but are unsure of how to enter the world of online journaling. As the medium has grown, I thought it might be a good idea to put together some general guidelines for new bloggers and reminders to veteran bloggers about blogging practices.
There is no Emily Post in blogging that offers etiquette advice, or a Miss Manners that details appropriate behavior. That does not mean there are not acceptable and unacceptable actions that bloggers should take. In order to efficiently communicate as a blogger on the Internet, it is critical to understand the unwritten rules of blogging etiquette.
If you copy another blog’s post should you link to them?
Yes, blog manners dictates that you make every effort to credit the original source of the blog post, this should be done through a link. The link should not contain the “nofollow” tag. Generally speaking the commentary about the quoted post, should be at least as long as the post that is copied.
How much can you quote of another persons blog post?
Fair use allows for posts or portions of posts to be quoted, but it is generally good practice to only quote what is necessary to retain the context of the post. When posting an excerpt from someone else, it is imperative that the context of the post remain intact.
If someone complains about having a blog post copied, what should you do?
The appropriate course of action would be to remove the offending post and replace it with text that explains why the post was removed. Even if you feel the post was simply fair use, and not a copyright violation, net courtesy dictates that you respect the wishes of the original poster and remove the content.
Why should you credit your sources?
Always credit the sources of your information. Attribution is important, it not only extends your credibility but it also will help build your channel for future content. Sources seeing that you give appropriate attribution will often reward you with additional information in the future.
How do I validate information?
As a blogger, reputation is everything. All items should be confirmed prior to posting. Consider using two sources to verify that information is accurate prior to posting. Also always use credible sources. Second sourcing and relying on credible sources will ensure that posts are accurate.
I made a mistake, what should I do?
If you have a change of heart, or posted something that is not 100% accurate, apologize to your readers and correct the information as soon as possible. Not only is it the right thing to do, but often feeds or blog posts are syndicated and unless a correction is made the words could perpetuate unchecked. If the mistake occurs in a blog post in addition to posting an apology, go back to the original post and strikeout the incorrect content and add a comment indicating why the post has been changed.
How to Write a Business Plan in Five Steps.
People often ask “What makes a good business plan?” Or, “How do I make my plan attractive to lenders and investors?”.
The simple answer is that lenders and investors (I’ll call them “readers” from here on out) are looking for good deals. A good deal is one that offers the reader a reasonable rate of return for the risk assumed. The complete answer is that you should write a plan that a reader will want to read and then get it to reader(s) who are looking for your type of project and levels of risk and return. This article deals with the first part of the equation – how to write a business plan that readers will want to read.
Readers want plans that clearly, accurately and completely allow them to make an initial determination about the project. Here are the steps needed to write that plan:
To borrow from the real estate industry, the three most important things about a business plan are research, research and research. While other things are important (even critical), ultimately your plan will live or die on the quality and completeness of your information. For that matter, you’re about to risk your time and financial future on a project – how much information do you want to have? Step one:
1. Become expert in your project. Learn everything possible about:
a. The customers to whom you will sell (your market).
b. The competition.
c. The actual costs of operating your business (get quotes).
d. The actual results of similar projects.
e. Your industry.
f. The project’s physical location(s) and it’s impact (if any) on the project.
g. The people who will be key to the project. If you’ve followed the above, you’ve now got a mound of research – sticky notes, web pages, reports, quotes, etc., etc. But, what does it all mean? Step two:
2. Analyze. (Hopefully) when you first got the idea for your project there was a sense of excitement and a feeling that this is a sure winner. Now is the time to see if your feelings were well founded. With a critical eye, do a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) analysis on your project. Determine what you are able to do to capitalize on the S and O and minimize the W and T.
Steps one and two may have changed somewhat your sure winner feelings – which is good. (If not, you either have hit upon the next sliced bread or you need to redo the preceding steps). Presuming that your research and analysis shows a worthwhile use of your time and money (and that of your readers) move to step three:
3. Forecast. This is where the rubber meets the road. Using your research and analysis you will now tell your readers that “this is what will happen to the money”. You’ll do it with accounting forecasts called pro forma statements. Provide either three or five years of statements with (generally) the first year done monthly, the second and third done quarterly and (if included) the last two years done annually. In all events, include:
Candy-Coated Sports
Spring is in full swing here in Michigan and around the country. That means you can find young athletes playing soccer and baseball in any given park just about every night of the week. It also means that on game days our young players get rewarded with cookies, chips and super-processed-jumbo-sized-mega-sized-chocolate-sugar-pops after their hard fought battles.
When did it happen? When did our nation associate youth sports as another chance to dose our kids up with candy? Can’t we just play the game for the game itself?
Just this week yet another report came out with huge Red Flag warnings for us to ignore. This study found that between the years of 1997 and 2003 the rate of kids hospitalized for type II diabetes jumped 4-fold. That’s a 200% increase in hospitalization for type II diabetes in kids, with those between 9 and 12 years old showing the worst hospitalization rates. This is reaffirming the CDC’s (Center for Disease Control) prediction that 1 out of 3 of today’s kids will become diabetic.
I coach soccer in a small town where we have about 250 kids playing soccer this fall in our club. If we are an average town then the CDC’s prediction translates to more than 80 of those 250 young soccer players with diabetes in their future. Personally, I can’t believe we would let this actually happen ? yet the data says it is happening.
But here’s the thing, the single biggest reason for this increase in diabetes rates is completely preventable. All we have to do is stop giving our kids all these sugary treats. We need to disassociate candy and treats from having fun.
It seems like almost every fun activity we have for our kids couples with a bag full of crap: youth sports, birthday parties, Easter baskets, 4th of July parades, Halloween trick-or-treating, Christmas stockings, or just the every day trip to the local ice cream parlor.
Now I like a good scoop of Moose Tracks ice cream on a waffle cone as much as the next person. The whole point is moderation. The ballpark is one area where our kids should be able to have fun without the post-game sugar bombs. It’s one place where they can learn to have fun without the need for junk food.
Kids may complain a little the first season because they have come to expect those rings pops and juice box rewards. But they will quickly get over it. I didn’t have any players quit my team when I neglected to set a snack schedule at the beginning of the season last year.
As a little aside, those sports drinks that you see super athletes drinking on TV aren’t going to help your kids either. Those are great for replacing electrolytes in an older athlete who is really taxing his or her body and sweating buckets. But I can tell you that in my 20 years of coaching, I have never seen an elementary school age player with the need for those drinks. Have you ever looked at their labels for sugar and salt concentration? Water works just fine for our youngest players.
It may be an unpopular move in the beginning but please encourage your team coach or manager to forego the snack schedule this year ? unless of course you think your kids would enjoy injecting themselves with insulin every day of their adult life.
Dance and Communication
On Wednesday I watched a young couple?s final private dance lesson before their forthcoming wedding next Saturday.
The engaged couple were not going to dance the traditional bridal waltz, but instead were dancing a slow romantic dance that had been skilfully choreographed to their favourite love song. Every facial expression, every body position and movement in that dance had this couple very clearly telling each other over and over, ?I love you?, I love you?, I love you??. But, not a word was spoken.
This slow romantic dance was immediately followed by a very lively Mambo. The dancing couple through this second dance said to me the observer, ?yes, we love each other dearly and we are really going to have fun and enjoy our lives together?.
I have taught tertiary courses on communication, and have used the following scenarios to demonstrate to students that communication is not just about verbalisations and the written word.
?OK, pair up and when I say ?go?, I want you to maintain eye contact with each other for thirty seconds only, but don?t communicate anything.?
We would then discuss this scenario as a class and generally the consensus would be that the eyes are very important in the communication process. And, of course they are.
A second scenario I sometimes used was to get one of the students to walk outside the classroom and to then come in and be very careful not to even fleetingly give eye contact to anyone in the room. This student had been told not to communicate anything to anyone.
Of course, it can not be done.
We can not, not communicate.
But, some forms of communication are more powerful than others.
And, what a powerful form of communication is DANCE.
My friend and Flamenco Dance expert Tom?s Dietz sent me an article he had written last week on Flamenco. The article is called ?What is Flamenco??, and I have published it on my Australian Dance Directory dot info web site.
His introduction reads: Flamenco is a complex art form firmly woven into the fabric of Spain?s Andalucian culture, expressed through passionate singing, driving guitar accompaniment and intensely emotional percussive dancing that involves arching bitter sweet body movements and shotgun footwork.*
Understanding that the dance?s history can be traced back to the 15th Century and the shocking atrocities suffered by the Spanish Inquisition and with the many different cultures involved, gives a whole new meaning when seeing the dance performed.
Modern Jive, Swing, Rock ?N? Roll, and several other dances have their roots in the dances danced by Afro-Americans back in the 1920?s and 1930?s. I have written and published another article on the history of these dances called, ?Hopping at the Savoy?. To these dancers at the time, DANCE, was probably more important as a communication tool than language itself.
There are thousands of different dances and many hundreds of styles of dance, and any one of them could be looked at as a communication tool. But if I was to give more exemplification here, this would become an epic and not just an article on dance and communication.
New Variations In Bed with Lovecentria?
Routine, boredom and a million other things that get in the way tend to make sex repetitive and unexciting after a while. It’s not that the two lovers plan things this way, but rather the fact that life tends to dampen enthusiasm in the long run. Using the same positions every time and building up an unshakable routine doesn’t help either. I’m not sure why some people think that doing the same thing again and again is a good idea, but they are wrong. Everybody needs a little variation in his or her life, including in the bedroom department.
And variation can easily and delightfully be achieved by learning new sex positions. Far from being nothing but frills, positions are actually a great way of making the other feel your love. Changing positions during sex allows the two lovers to play with each other and to find new ways of getting and giving pleasure. If you feel that sex is getting stale, but love is still strong, then you simply have to learn some new positions and bring a little variety in the bedroom. And if you don’t know where to turn to find the best information on new positions, the answer is quite simple: Lovecentria?.
Lovecentria? has one of the most comprehensive databases of sex hints, tips and information on the Internet and, naturally, a whole section dedicated to sex positions. From the most mundane to the most exotic ones, we have them all accompanied by both text and incredible 3D animations that you can use to make sure you learn them right and make no embarrassing mistakes. It’s true that getting it right the first time is pretty hard, but trying and failing is not that bad if both partners get to see the fun side. Learning new positions can really strengthen the bond between two people.
Browsing the list of new positions together and choosing the ones you are going to use in a couple of minutes can be a very sexy experience for both partners. Just think of all the pleasure lying ahead of you and focus on the fact that you are about to enjoy a great night and never worry that things might turn out wrong. You’re just beginning to learn new positions so there’s no reason to feel bad over a fumble, especially if the end result is mind blowing. Also, a really good idea is to try a decent number of positions in order to understand how they work.
The team has put together even more video and written guides that can add immensely to your knowledge and turn you into the ultimate lover. The entire website is packed with information that can help you understand what women think about men and how they see sex and what they like both in bed and in life. New sex positions may well turn out to be just the beginning of your acquaintance with the Lovecentria? website and you may find yourself returning time and again to read on other topics of interest.
How Can You Tell If You Have What It Takes To Be A Leader?
Finding out “How am I doing?” has always been a thorny issue for managers, particularly when the issue is about “How good a leader am I?”. It’s relatively easy to get feedback on results (e.g. sales, budgets etc.) but it becomes more difficult to get feedback on how we lead and manage others. Often the only feedback we get is when our boss tells us “something has gone wrong”. Or, when we do get feedback from colleagues it’s often very general and likely to be more positive. Yet, research (first carried out as long ago as 1920!) clearly shows that:
? managers who seek and get regular feedback from others are among the better performing managers.
In the last decade, research has confirmed these earlier studies and additionally found that:
? managers who are accurately aware of their strengths and weaknesses are better leaders.
How can we get some realistic feedback on our performance as managers, and more specifically our ability as leaders? The simplest way is to ask others. Some of us do that from time to time in an informal way, but the accuracy and extent of the feedback depends on many variables, not the least of which is people’s ability to receive and give honest feedback.
Some years ago, the “360 degree feedback” process was designed to overcome many of these inadequacies. It’s called “360′ because feedback is sought in a structured way from:
? Our manager
? Our peers
? The people that report to us
We also complete a “self” rating for comparison with the feedback of others. In other words, a 360 degree view of our performance.
The process involves each person (refered to as “raters”) completing a questionnaire that asks them how often do they see us exhibiting a number of common leadership behaviours on scales such as “always”, “often”, “occasionally”, “seldom” or “never”?. The more progressive 360 tools also ask each rater to add whether they would like to see us display “more” of each behaviour, the “same” amount, or “less” of each of the leadership behaviours. In this way we can gain some meaningful and useful feedback.
That all sounds well and good, but do all 360’s answer the question about “my performance as a leader”? My experience is often not. Most focus on the inputs of leadership such as character, personality, values, motives, skills or behaviours. As such, they are generally measuring what we do as “managers” not “leaders”.
What’s the difference?
Almost 100 years ago, Mary Parker Follett described a manager as “one who gets things done through people”. This description is still used by management educators and scholars today, but I believe should be changed to: “one who gets the things done that are described by the organisation in the manager’s role or position description, through the people they have been assigned”. My contention is that, if you are a manager, then: – You become a manager when you sign on for the job – You only become a leader when your people say so
