Celebrating Jonathan

without comments

Amy Jaffe Barzach Advocate for Children of All Abilities West Hartford, Connecticut

I’d given up on all the usual words, now I was searching for the magic ones — words that would make the pain go away. It was just after New Year’s when I lost Jonathan, my baby son, to spinal muscular atrophy. And I was stuck. Everything I read in books and magazines made sense, but nothing took the pain away.

Just before Jonathan died, I had sat with him in the hospital, his little hand clasped in mine, his three-year-old brother, Daniel, entertaining us with songs on his guitar. A copy of Parade magazine was on the table. On the cover were the words, Deal With Loss by Celebrating Life. The meaning struck a chord in me, but its full impact was yet to come.

Jonathan died three days later. The despair that followed was unbearable; the days were difficult, the nights were worse. Searching for comfort, I came across a passage in The Prophet by Khalil Gibran that talked about celebrating life as a way of dealing with loss. I looked up from my book and saw the little memorial card my husband had made for me, which included a picture of Jonathan and the words from the Parade cover, laminated together.

This time, the words took a grip on me and wouldn’t let go. I began to cry uncontrollably; but the tears felt different, like a new beginning. It was as if the darkness that had surrounded me for the past few months had lifted.

Deal with loss by celebrating life.

I remembered a sunny day shortly before Jonathan had become ill. I had taken him and Daniel to a playground, and while Daniel frolicked, I rocked Jonathan in his carriage. Suddenly, I noticed a little girl sitting in a wheelchair on the sidewalk, sadly watching the other children. Her fingers tightly gripped the spokes of her wheelchair; her little chin quivered as she tried to hold back her tears. She longed to be joining the other children at play, but with no accessible path to the equipment, she couldn’t get close. And even if she could, there was nothing for her to do. Not one part of the playground was available to a child in a wheelchair.

The image of that little girl sitting on the sidelines continued to haunt me while Jonathan was struggling for life in the hospital. Now here I was at my desk, thinking about how to celebrate Jonathan’s life. I had my answer.

What if I built a playground where all children could play? Wouldn’t that be a true celebration of life?

The idea stayed with me through the next few months, as I struggled to find the strength and courage to begin the work. I started slowly, enlisting the help of my family; I recruited volunteers — more than one thousand of them. My husband made little memorial cards, just like the one he’d made for me, for our entire family. We carried them with us everywhere, and to this day, I still find them unexpectedly in the pockets of something I am wearing.

But as April 1st of that year approached — what would have been Jonathan’s first birthday — I was once again plunged into despair. I’d see other babies who looked about a year old and my heart would break all over again. I longed for Jonathan.

Rather than run from the date, my husband Peter and I decided to have a party on Jonathan’s birthday at the local hospital. We arranged for a storyteller and a singer to entertain the children. We spent the day crying tears of joy and tears of sadness.

We celebrated the day. And we survived the day.

Eighteen months from the day I’d first read those insightful words, we opened our special playground. We called it Jonathan’s Dream. The moment I saw children in wheelchairs rolling up the ramp to the equipment, I was overwhelmed with tears of happiness.

Here were kids of all abilities, playing and learning together.

They were celebrating life. And I was celebrating Jonathan.

    Want to Delete Porn?…Forget it

    without comments

Last month, there were over 136,231 reported keyword searches for “delete porn” registered on Google search. Those are only the registered searches in Google. Unregistered searches account for four times the above number. So, what is every body so worried about?

The birth of the internet was supposed to give people the freedom to download private adult entertainment into there homes.

However, their homes are no longer a private place. There is nothing private on the internet. A constant online connection means that the door to your home is always open. Therefore, it has become necessary to delete search history and especially delete porn history to avoid embarrassment and protect your online security.

The internet privacy industry has grown exponentially because of the need of people to delete porn from their computers. However, those poor souls have no idea that the techniques they are using to delete porn are mostly wasted. Adult websites have developed modified cookies, registry keys and image spies that, escape this software. These modified spies re-record PC users information especially credit card history. These actions are done online not offline.

Internet privacy and evidence erasing software cannot protect your from being tracked online or targeted by identity thieves and hackers. The effort to delete porn from your PC hard drive is nothing more than an offline solution to an online problem.

Users never stop to think that their IP address can be tracked and monitored by spy software, ISPs and the new IP hijackers. There has been little information provided to the public about protecting their online privacy. This is why search engines are being flooded with the entry “how to delete porn”. Obviously, this is a sign of ignorance. One of the few effective ways to cover your web tracks is to perform a “secure delete” to learn more about secure deletion procedure. Visit delete-computer-history.com.

User must seek out information in order to protect themselves from identity theft, embarrassment and I guess learn “how to delete porn”. This action is not difficult but the solution is not lock away in one click software. Online solutions are needed to stop adult websites from collecting your information and selling it to highest bidder. So, how to delete porn is not the question that needs to be answered.

There are a few question such as

How to protect my IP address?

How to perform a secure delete?

    How to stop information thieves?

These questions should get you started on protecting your privacy. So don’t become on the millions trying to learn how to delete porn. Learn how to protect yourself!

?Could you pass this Internet Business Quiz??

    without comments

Here?s a short quiz. See if you know the correct answers.

    1) True or False: You need to create your own product in or to run an Internet business.

    2) True or False: Not only do you need to create your own product, but you need to create it before you start building a subscriber list.

    3) True or False: Creating and controlling markets is only be achieved by big, brick and mortar companies.

    4) True or False: If you have a huge subscriber list then you will automatically make bundles of cash.

What were your answers? Guess what. The answer to all of these questions is FALSE! These are common myths about running an Internet business. Don?t fall prey to these misconceptions. Let?s investigate each myth in more detail.

Myth #1: You need to create your own product in or to run an Internet business. Nope! The beauty of the Internet is that you can use as a promotional vehicle. You can promote the products of other Internet entrepreneurs. You can sign up to become an affiliate for several programs. You can also create joint ventures. In fact, it has been proven that you can make one million dollars promoting the products of other Internet businesses.

Myth #2: Not only do you need to create your own product, but you need to create it before you start building a subscriber list. No way! Remember, you can promote other people?s products. Therefore, it is not necessary to create a product before you start a subscriber list. In fact, you should start building your subscriber list right now! Don?t wait. Start promoting and building up the clientele so that you have eager takers when you promote your first product.

Myth #3: Creating and controlling markets is only be achieved by big, brick and mortar companies. No way! You have the power to create and control markets if you know how. The key is to find subscribers that want your products and services. You can create your own market by surveying subscribers to see what they need. Find out what they need and give it to them. Embed yourself in a niche, learn about its customers, and there you go ? you control the market!

Myth #4: If you have a huge subscriber list then you will automatically make bundles of cash. Wrong-o-matic! Quantity does not beget sales. Instead, you need to focus on a quality subscriber list. A higher quality list will contain subscribers that are actually interested in and will purchase your products. That being said, never, never, never buy a list of email addresses. This type of list has zero quality and will label you a spammer.

How did you do on the quiz? If you didn?t answer all the questions correctly, do you understand the answers now? Hope you do because your competitors do!

So You’re Stressed Again? Here Are Quick Tips To Fight It

    without comments

Almost every day we encounter stressors that either make us or break us. And when do break us, it’s not really nice. Nobody wants to be down and stressed, and nobody wants to hear glasses being smashed everywhere. But stress occurs, and it’s up to us how to respond to it. Sounds like you’ve read something like this before? Well read on because you need a reminder. Here are some of the things you can do to fight that unwanted stress.

    1. Exercise. Walking not only makes you fit, it could also relax your tense muscles, and gives you time to think through more clearly. Sometimes the solution to that one problem you’ve been dying to solve will come out when you least expect it. So take a brisk walk outside. Other recommended forms of physical activities are tai chi and yoga. They both soothe the muscles, and make you have that quiet time with yourself.

    2. Meditation. It greatly relaxes the mind by directing your attention onto an object. Health benefits are reported from meditating everyday, like lowered blood pressure and increased blood flow. I’m not the best person to give you an advice about the best way to meditate, but if you want to give it a try, then pick a book for beginners and practice meditating everyday, before you see the results.

    3. Breathing. Taking long deep breaths and directing all your attention to each breath you take in a form of relaxation. Do it every day, especially when stressors attack you.

    4. Vitamin C. Vitamin C is a known stress buster. Our adrenal glands release cortisol that triggers the “flight or fight” response to stress, allowing us to spring into action when we sense danger. But frequent exposure to situations that cause high levels of stress hormones impairs one’s learning and memory, making us more susceptible to depression.

In one German study, 120 people were subjected to a public speaking task with math problems. Half of them were given 1,000 mg of Vitamin C while the other half weren’t. Those who got the vitamin reported being less stressed.

In another study, Vitamin C fed to rats undergoing stress had decreased their cortisol levels and prevented then from showing signs of physical and emotional stress, like weight gain.

Take your daily doses of Vitamin C found in fruits and vegetables, and is also available in supplement form.

    5. Herbal teas. If you want to be relaxed, there is a way for you to achieve that without taking medications. There are some herbs that are known to relax the mind. Make a tea out of Chamomile, hops and lemon balm. They are available in your health stores.

Not every stressful situation is bad. A public speaking or work presentation molds us into better people, and makes us realize that we are capable of doing and overcoming big hurdles. How we respond to the world around us is in our hands, and the less we react negatively, the less stress there is, making us happier and more peaceful. Take care!

Taking a road trip? Make sure you are prepared

    without comments

It should go without saying. You use you car every day, yet chances are you spend more time thinking about which radio station to enjoy than what is going on under the hood. Preventative maintenance is a very important aspect of car ownership and should never be taken lightly.

    Pre-roadtrip checklist
As you prepare for a road trip, whether you are going up the coast, up the state or across the country it is important that you add preventative vehicle maintenance to the top of your to do list. Your car will endure long hours of constant movement, making it susceptible to issues from problems that may have been slowly building.

Mechanics and service stations located on highway off ramps are expensive, may employ questionable technicians, and could have to special order any number of parts. Don’t get stuck in wounded vehicle far from home.

    What to tell check
Before you drive off into the sunset, make an appointment with your mechanic, or dealership for an oil change and a basic tune up. Quick lube services are great, but before you get on the road it is advisable to take it to a full service shop.

Be sure to tell them you plan to take the vehicle on a road trip and give an estimate of the mileage you plan to put on it. This allows the technicians to project and give you the best evaluation.

A few fairly inexpensive things you should do before a long distance drive:

  • Have your tires rotated, and if you can afford it have your front end aligned as well. Ask the technician to look at the condition of the tires and give you an estimated life span
  • Replace your windshield wiper blades (this is easy to do yourself)
  • Have your coolant system checked for leaks and wear, long hours of perpetual motion makes things hot inside the engine compartment. It is important that your coolant system is able to do its job properly
  • Have your brakes inspected, make sure your brake pads are at a safe thickness. If there is a question, replace them. Handy tip, replace messy graphite with ceramic brake pads. They are a little pricier, but they last longer, don’t make as much noise and they are dramatically cleaner.
  • Check a spark plug or two. Work spark plugs cause inefficient combustion and affect gas mileage. Although they are in inexpensive part, their location makes them invariably difficult to replace. Depending on the distance you are traveling, the cost of labor may pay for itself in saved gas.
  • Check hoses and belts for any wear or frays and erosion of clamps. Check all fluids to ensure that the reservoirs are full.
  • Other things to remember
Beyond mechanics there are other important aspects of your vehicular travel that should not be overlooked.

  • Music - No road trip is complete without it, no matter what you listen to make sure that you have serviced any cassette or CD players to prep them for constant use and to circumvent problems while on the road.
  • Comfort - Make sure to brainstorm in an attempt to predict what you will need during long hours of travel. Blankets, trash bags, a cooler for snacks, maps and directions, sunglasses, hair ties, water, and any other necessity needs to have a home within arms reach for easy access.
  • First Aid - We should all carry a first aid kit in our vehicles, but the reality of that is, most of us don’t. Be sure you have one for long road trips, especially when rural driving is involved. Consider throwing in a hot/cold pack for sore driving muscles.
  • Jumper cables - Don’t depend on the guy nice enough to stop and give you a jump to provide the cables too. Carry jumper cables at all times.
  • Be sure to take precautions before you load up the car and take off anywhere outside of your town. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that lack of proper maintenance costs more than two billion dollars in lost wages, medical costs and property damage a year.

Pay a few bucks now for peace of mind later.

Debunking The Myths And Revealing The TRUTH On How To Create Toned And Defined Abs!

    without comments

There?s a reason why you?re reading these words right now. My bet is that you?re hoping to get the TRUTH on how to sculpt toned and defined abdominals.

    Am I right?

    That?s what I thought.

I?m also going to put a wager on my belief that you?re seeking the absolute best results possible in the shortest amount of time? and the easier the better.

    I?m on a roll, aren?t I?

Well, before I explain how to unveil your best abs in 12-weeks or less? I must first ?point my finger? at the TOP 3 myths associated with your abdominals, in order to erase any false belief systems that are imprisoned within your mind that can only hold you back from the ?eight-pack? you desire and deserve!

Myth #1: By performing abdominal crunches you?ll lose body fat in that area alone.

When you perform any exercise for your abs what you?re actually doing is disrupting the muscle fiber? breaking it apart.

Then, assuming the intensity of the workout was high enough and after allowing the appropriate amount of rest? your hidden ?eight-pack? of abs becomes a little bit stronger and harder.

A percentage of the calories you burn during the workout and for several hours afterwards will come from fat that?s stored within your body, but you absolutely have no way of knowing exactly where that fat is going to escape from? nor can you control the process? and you won?t lose body fat in the abdominal area alone.

    Too bad!

Allow me to explain? there are unwanted but necessary compartments all over your body that excess fat enters for storage purposes. When there’s a need to release a certain amount of fat for your energy demands then your mind instructs the body fat to come off from wherever it sees fit.

Unfortunately 9 times out of 10, the most stubborn areas (one being your stomach) is the first place that fat runs to and the last place it likes to walk away from.

However, if you?re consistent and force your abs to become stronger and firmer on a regular basis by working out on a progressive program (a full body program that includes abdominal training), while also eating properly? then you definitely won?t be upset as the layer of fat resting between your slabs of abs and skin will shrink, becoming thinner and your once hidden ?eight-pack? will shine through!

Myth #2: To get the best possible results from your abdominal workout it?s crucial to perform at least 50 repetitions in a set.

I?m not sure when or why this myth broke into the minds of many fitness enthusiasts. Perhaps it?s just become accepted over time that in order to develop a sliced and diced waistline it?s imperative to literally burn-out by performing endless reps and sets of abdominal work.

My friend, nothing could be further from the truth!

    A question for you;

When you train your chest, do you perform 50 to 100 reps in a set?

    My guess is no.

So, it doesn?t make any sense whatsoever to grind out absurdly high reps for your abs since this muscle group contains a high percentage of what we Fitness Guru?s call ?fast twitch? muscle fiber.

The real secret to ?The Law of Attraction?

    without comments

This Article will explain to you the Real Secret to The Law of Attraction… Learn the secret, Use the secret, and Achieve whatever you desire in your life

I’m not an expert or a scientist who profoundly understand about particles. Yet, in general the whole things you see around you, including you and I as human being are made of collection of molecules. If the molecules break down, they are made up of atoms that are stuck together forming variety of particular shapes. Human body comprise of so many atoms. These atoms regularly acquire electric charge by gaining or losing one or more electrons, which called ion. There are two ways how the ions in our body charged it self, positively(+) and negatively(-) charged. So, what is the relation between this ion story with the secret to the Law of Attraction?

The relation is the answer to the secret number one?#1

“The Law of Attraction” is “The Law of Attract-ION” It’s about how you can Attract(+)Ion or Attract(-)Ion. Yes, it’s about how you can attract as many positive ions or negative ions as possible from the universe into your body and soul. It is your mind who takes control of that role. That’s the reason why you have to constantly fill up your mind with positive belief and dreams in order to make yourself a better person each and every day of your life. Never think of something negative because it will attract the negative ions from the universe. For example if you think you don’t have money than it will make you in that condition as long as you dwell upon this thought because your mind will attempt to capture the ions which related to whatever your mind think. Rather than thinking you have no money, you should think and visualize yourself as a rich and prosperous person. It will make your mind to attract the related ion with wealthy. But, remember that you must think that thought consistently and focus to it, add up with emotions and feel the sensation of receiving those ions into your body and soul.

The process of Attract-ION is performed by your subconscious mind. By thinking positively, your subconscious mind will attract positive things to happen into your life. When you load your mind with your dreams, goals, and the life you want to live, your subconscious mind will attract these ions from the universe according to what is inside your mind. And those ions will positively charge your body. But The Law of Attraction will not work if you stop here! You must take proper action immediately.

You’ll learn it here as it is the secret number two?#2

“The Law of Attraction” is “The Law of attr-ACTION”. Yes, it’s about taking Action. After you received the impulse as the effect from your mind attracting those positive ions from the universe, you must immediately take action. Let yourself pursue the intuition, start taking action and analyze the outcome. Sometimes those intuitive signals will have no apparent connection to achieving your goal, but if you follow them, they will lead you down a path of magnificent achievement.

One thing you should know, The Law of Attraction is not just a one night process, it’s a continuous process. You must repeat the process of Attract-ION and attr-ACTION persistently in order to achieve your goal and your dreams.

Now you know the secret already, I suggest You start Attract(+)Ion now by thinking positive things, and experience the Ideal and Favorable Life You Desire!

What do you need to know about senior?s health

    without comments

As one progresses in age, he retreats in health or fitness. Though senior citizens are counseled to stay fit, it is barely the case like. Numerous natural transformations occur in the body as it moves towards fragility. For instance, the bones and muscles lose their potential reducing the stamina of the body, the kidneys and other internal organs start malfunctioning and the vigor of the skin recedes.

But the fact is that health is wealth at every stage of life. It is more crucial when one enters into the senior citizens category because there are few caretakers in those times. So, the elderly should concentrate on fitness as much as possible. There are quite a few ways in which the aged can enjoy a good physical and mental health.

    1. Health Insurance- it is the first and foremost requirement of every senior citizen. A medical insurance is the greatest friend in the time of need. It can provide you and your family the financial aid in worst times of your life. But one should be pretty careful in purchasing a health care policy. The plan that facilitates maximum benefits should be taken up.

    2. Diet and Exercise- the diet of individual varies with the age along with other factors. But at an older age, a person should be extra careful in matters of eating. This is because, the antibodies or the immunity system receives a setback in this age and one becomes more prone to all sorts of illnesses. The diet therefore should be thriving in vitamins, minerals, proteins and carbohydrates. Fats should be strictly avoided as they make one susceptible to numerous diseases particularly heart problems. There must be an extra intake of calcium to support the diluting bones. But a rich diet is not enough. Some exercises should be a part of daily routine in this age. Individuals need to be extra cautious about movements of their limbs for the natural strength and the disease fighting ability of the body keeps on retiring in older ages.

    3. Those who have a family history of ailments like prostrate and colon cancer, the diseases that most likely hit men in fifties and above, should get regular medical check ups done. They must follow the doctor?s advice and all the injunctions and prohibitions.

    4. Women are more likely to be affected by breast cancer. They also are vulnerable to other diseases due to menopause. Though the course of destiny can never be averted yet prevention should never be ignored. There are some medicines that women should take after menopause in order to minimize the risk factor.

    5. Alzheimer?s disease and Dementia are even threatening for women. The former is a fall in certain cognitive brain functions. It is a type of dementia. Dementia impedes an individual?s intellectual functioning and capability to work. These diseases mostly affect women in sixties and above that. Such women gradually become forgetful and incompetent in doing skilful work. As soon as some of these symptoms are evident, doctor should be consulted without delay. Drugs at early stage might stop the situation from worsening.

    6. Avoid stress. Stress is as harmful as any other contagious disease. Don?t stoop to drugs so called stress busters. Consult a psychiatrist if conditions run out of control.

Like in many many other countries in the world, Kenya has had its share of deforestation through illegal logging, land degradation by use rudiment ally farming practices and burning of fossil fuels leading to the Global warming threat, where the world is expected to warm up by over 2 degrees centigrade over the next 100 years. It expected that increased temperature changes could lead to drastic and erratic weather changes with some parts of the world becoming either too hot or too cold. This is going to affect food production to an ever growing population especially in the less developed African countries making human survival harder than in any other period in the history of mankind.

Professor Wangari Maathai has has taken the leading role in organizing communities and Non-Governmental organizations into condemning land grabbing, degazettement of forest land and illegal logging, through her Green Belt movement. In Search Of The Ultimate Gaming Laptop

    without comments

Gaming technology is developing at a blistering pace. Extremely fast. White knuckle fast. So fast it is very hard to keep track of all the latest innovations even for the most die-hard gaming enthusiast.

Gaming laptops are getting faster, sleeker and more powerful even as you read this. There has been a rapid deployment of gaming and laptop technology recently… dual core, dual graphics, dual hard drives… and the list keeps growing.

Larger screens are another major improvement with 19 and even 20 inch displays coming on stream, offering us a greater viewing area and more enjoyment.

With all these changes taking place in the gaming sector, where can you find the ultimate gaming laptop, the most powerful motherboard of all extreme machines? The best gaming performance for the money?

Where to look? Where to start the search?

Every gamer can tell you the heart of any gaming laptop is the graphics card. You must get the most powerful graphics or GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) if you want your gaming system to perform to the max.

Now everything is coming up dual!

If one card is good, two must be better! You can now get gaming systems with twin or dual graphics with over a Gig of memory. You must also have a way to handle all this power so look for PCI-Express with SLI (Scalable Link Interface) systems.

Don’t skimp your pennies here, try to get the best Graphics possible – a lot of gamers go for the high end GPUs such as ATI Mobility Radeon or NVIDIA GeForce Go series. Usually the higher the number the better performance it will deliver.

    Know Your RAM

RAM is very important in a gaming laptop mainly because, as with any computer, RAM will largely determine how fast it will perform. Same as with your graphics card, go for the highest RAM possible. Know the difference between ordinary RAM and Video RAM. The latter is very important for running and getting full enjoyment out of your extreme gaming laptop.

Helping to speed everything up, high end gaming laptops now come with dual core processors, most gamers go for Intel or AMD processors. Go with a SATA (Serial Advanced Technology Attachment) hard drive with the highest storage and speed you can afford.

    If Money Is No Object

If you want the ultimate gaming laptop you will probably have to pay a hefty price for top performance. The ultimate gaming laptop is really a luxury item where price is never much of a consideration in the first place. For those lucky few where money is no object (These creatures do roam the earth I am told!), searching out the best laptop money can buy must be a pleasant task.

Your hunt would no doubt begin with some of the top gaming brands such as Alienware (now owned by Dell), Voodoo (now a part of HP) and Rock Direct, a UK Laptop Company.

Let’s face it, these high end gaming laptop manufacturers are mainly selling style and looks at a premium price. Many people criticize this as style over substance, most of these companies are using the same gaming components shipped in from Taiwan and assembling them into neat little gaming (marketing) packages.
