How to Use Google Alerts to Boost Your Business

without comments

Google Alerts are a handy little email notification service provided by Google to let you know when new information in which you might be interested has been posted somewhere online and spidered by the Google searchbot. It’s a no-cost way for you to determine what’s been written online about both you and your competition, as well as to track any number of other terms that will aid you in your market research efforts. You can also use this system as a way to research market trends and market statistics and determine “what’s hot” in your target market to give you topic ideas for future articles, blog posts, and product and service offerings.

Here’s how to set up and use your Google Alerts account:

1. Brainstorm a list of terms and keywords you want to track. You list should include the following: your name, your company’s name, names of your products or programs, the name and/or company name of your competitors, keyword terms pertinent in your industry or to your business, names of “moves and shakers” in your industry, and names of potential joint venture/strategic alliance partners

Don’t worry about brainstorming absolutely everything in this step. Google Alerts makes it simple to add additional alerts as you need them.

2. Create a Google account. You can do so at http://www.google.com/alerts by following the sign in links, which will eventually bring you to a page where you create a new Google account. If you already use Gmail or some other Google service, you should be able to sign in to Google Alerts using that account info.

3. Create your alerts. Sign in to your Google account and begin to create your alerts. Here’s how to create the most effective alerts:

–Use quotation marks to surround your term, like “marketing coach”. By doing so, Google will alert you to only those pages making reference to this particular term.

–Choose the once-a-day alert which you can then review at the start of each day. Once a week is too seldom, and getting them as they happen will overwhelm you with email.

–Choose the most thorough search option, the Comprehensive option, in which Google searches the news, websites, blogs, and groups.

4. Add additional alerts later. I like to see where the info that I write ends up. Because I write a new article each week and submit it to article banks, I enter the article title as a Google alert to be notified when it’s placed on someone’s site or blog. I also add other keywords that I think searchers might use to find my site to see if my site is listed when it comes to those terms as well as to see what other sites come up by using those terms.

5. Scan the results. The amount of email that you receive will dramatically increase when you sign up for Google Alerts, so create a filter or rule in your email program to move all the alerts to a special folder for later viewing rather than clogging up your email inbox. Briefly scan the results and more thoroughly read the listings that appear to be most relevant. Because Google Alerts now searches blogs, many of the blog postings noted in your alert will look nonsensical because many bloggers have created blogs of keyword-crammed entries that are completely meaningless for you. Unfortunately, if do much marketing online, it’s only a matter of time until your name, company name, or name of an article that you’ve written appears on someone’s keyword-crammed blog.

Google Alerts are the most cost-effective market research you can use to help you grow your business. If you don’t have a Google alerts account, what’s stopping you?

How To Have Better Success In Over Fished Waters

    without comments

Fishing is certainly one of the times where bigger is not necessarily better, even though your buddy sitting next to you in the boat is convinced it’s true. Sure there are many situations where big fishing equipment is appropriate and will probably lead you to more fish in the boat. However, fishing’s popularity is growing and space on the water is becoming a little more cramped. The fish are starting to take notice too. Some of these fish have seen it all from us fishermen and they are not being fooled anymore. In heavily fished areas the best fishermen have developed a new technique for success; Finesse Fishing.

I can hear the screams of fishermen worldwide, “What in the heck is finesse fishing and why do I want anything to do with something that has the words finesse and fishing in the same sentence?” Well, like it or not some waters are being fished so heavily that the good fish aren’t biting anymore. They have seen the tricks employed by the common fishermen and are ready for a better show. That is why we need to alter our approach a bit to fool the fish onto our lures again. Finesse fishing, in its simplest explanation, is just downsizing our equipment to throw a new look at an old fish. The easiest way to convert your game is to buy smaller and lighter versions of your current equipment. Let’s start with the rod. To get started on your finesse venture try buying a light to medium light action spinning rod. Buy something inexpensive to get the feel of a lighter action rod. With a little experience you will develop a preference for something a bit lighter, heavier, or lose interest in finesse fishing altogether. This way you can avoid wasting money on your first finesse purchase. Many fishermen say they feel like they are re-learning to fish. This new style could add some excitement to a day on the water and give you an excuse to buy more fishing gear. In fact finesse fishing is catching on quick and as a result many manufacturers have devoted a portion of their production of rods just for finesse fishing.

Don’t stop with just the rod; downsizing the reel in your setup will make a drastic change in how you fish and more importantly how many fish you catch. Some of the small reels available these days are set up nicely to carry a lighter line, like the one used by finesse fishermen. When shopping for a small reel, treat it just as you would be shopping for a large reel, except in a smaller format.

The most important change for a traditional fisherman trying to convert to finesse is in the line. When I first got into finesse fishing I got lost in all of the different options available on the market. Luckily a friend of mine was quite knowledgeable and one of his best pieces of advice was this, “When choosing a line stick to the traditional monofilament. Trust me.” Well I did trust him and have been happy since. The reason he didn’t like to use a braided line is because it floats, and floating ruins the function of a floating lure. I tried a braided line a couple times and I can add this additional word of guidance: mono lines tend to blend in underwater and help the bait look natural versus a braided line. Another consideration is line weight. Any line between six and ten pound test will work, and with a bit of experience on the water you will develop a preferred test weight. Some situations will require a six pound line to fool the most hesitant fish.

Choosing a lure is another necessity for any finesse fisherman. Fortunately there are hundreds of different lures available that fit finesse setups. The lures you choose will depend entirely on personal preference and necessity based on the waters you tend to fish. Be sure to buy a few different styles and test them out; some fish will respond better than others to particular lures. While some may still contend that bigger is in fact always better, sometimes it is worth it to mix things up. Try finesse fishing to add a new unique aspect to your fishing arsenal and increase your chances of going home a happy fisherman!

All you need to know about colorectal cancer

    without comments

Most of the cancers which affect the colon and the rectum develop from the lining of these two large intestine elements and are known as adenocarcinomas. The cancer at first looks like a small swelling on the inside surface of the colon or rectum and then it develops forming a tumor, expanding to all the colon’s layers and affecting the local lymph nodes. In its last stages the colorectal cancer spreads towards distant organs like liver or lungs affecting them too.

It seems that mostly the western population is affected by this disease. Women seem to develop colon cancer more frequently then men who develop rectal cancer more often. The persons aged more than 40 are at risk and those who are 60 or 70 are more likely to have this disease than others.

Scientists have not found out exactly why this disease occurs but they believe that if you follow a diet that is rich in proteins and fats and low in fiber you might develop cancer. Also, having a family history of colorectal cancer and breast or uterus cancer could be a risk for you. Drinking alcohol is also a factor that leads to cancer. If you have polyps on the inner wall of the intestine and you leave them untreated they can transform into malign tumors (meaning that cancer had occurred). Also, people who suffer of Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis can develop this disease too.

There are some symptoms which could announce that cancer is installing, but they also appear in other diseases. Some of the symptoms are: seeing blood in your bowels, alternation of diarrhea with constipation, and low abdominal pains. Bloating can be present and feeling tiredness and vomiting can occur too. In most of the intestinal cancers, loosing weight is present. The loss of weight is made in a short period of time and even though for some people it might be considered a blessing, this is not a good thing, because it means that the tumor blocks the bowel somewhere inside the intestines. If the tumor is situated at the end of the colon or in the rectum it might give you the feeling that you still have to go to the bathroom even if you just went. Some people might even refuse to sit down as this act can be painful.

Diagnosing colon cancer is made by performing some tests. The stool is being tested to see if blood can be found in it. Sometimes a digital rectum examination can be performed by the doctor. The rectal and colon screening is made by sigmoidoscopy, which uses a tube with an optic camera to see what is inside the large intestine. Also, blood tests are needed to measure the level of carcinoembryonic antigen which might indicate the presence of a cancer.

As soon as the colon cancer is discovered the doctors will decide upon the best therapy measure for the patient. In early stages the cancer can be treated only by surgery which removes the tumor and the local lymph nodes. In more advanced stages of the cancer chemotherapy is needed after surgery to be sure the cancerous cells have been removed totally. There are some cases in which the rectum and a part of the colon need to be removed and so the patient will remove the stool by an opening created in the abdominal wall which is connected to a colostomy bag.

Tips For Choosing A Powered Wheelchair

    without comments

People tend to think about purchasing a powered wheelchair when they can no longer manage their standard manual wheelchair. First, however, it may be worth considering the range of active user wheelchairs that are available. These are manual wheelchairs that are lightweight and have large propelling wheels on an adjustable axle, so that the position of the wheelchair user within the chair can be adjusted to optimise their propelling and manoeuvring potential. A wheelchair user who may, previously, have found propelling a standard wheelchair too difficult may find that the reduced effort needed to propel an active user wheelchair is sufficient to regain independent mobility. The relative lightness of these wheelchairs, especially over powered wheelchairs, is an advantage if the chair has to be lifted and transported in and out of a car boot.

The wide range of battery-powered vehicles currently available for the disability market is divided into three main categories: powered wheelchairs, scooters, and buggies.

Highway regulations group powered vehicles into two categories: Class 2 and Class 3 vehicles.

    CLASS 2 POWERED WHEELCHAIRS

Class 2 powered wheelchairs can travel up to 6.4kph (4mph) on pavements and on the road only to cross from one side of the road to the other. They can be divided into sub-sections:

    Indoor use only

? for indoor use; ? small turning circle; ? could be used on a level patio area or in a small, level garden; ? short distance range.

    Indoor and outdoor use

? for indoor use; ? for outdoor use over standard terrain; ? over low kerbs; ? short/medium distance range.

    Outdoor use only

? limited indoor use; ? outdoor use including uneven ground; ? kerb climbing up to 10cm; ? medium to long distance range.

The wheelchairs that can be used both indoors and outdoors tend to be the most popular types because they are more versatile. Wheelchairs usually have to be taken indoors for storage and maintenance, if for nothing else, so the overall size and manoeuvrability of an indoor/outdoor wheelchair suits most people.

    CLASS 3 POWERED WHEELCHAIRS

These tend to be larger than Class 2 vehicles and can be used on the roads where they can travel up to 12.8kph (8mph).

Owners of class 3 vehicles do not have to hold a current driving licence. Drivers should be disabled and aged 14 or over, and they must be familiar with the Highway Code and drive in accordance with these rules at all times. This includes complying with relevant eyesight requirements and not driving under the influence of alcohol. Class 3 vehicles are not allowed on motorways, cycle lanes or bus lanes. Although legally allowed on dual carriageways, the size and relative slow speed of a Class 3 wheelchair can be hazardous to larger, faster moving traffic, and the driver may feel extremely vulnerable.

It may be possible to enrol on a training course and receive instruction on how to drive your wheelchair safely on the highway. Your local road safety officer or Mobility Centre may know of courses running in your area.

    Fast Food and Calories

    without comments

Here in the technology and information age, we have more knowledge and advancements than ever before in history. Sixty years ago, who would have ever thought that you could send an instant message over a phone, let alone take a picture with it? Sixty years ago, who would have thought we would be capable of sending a man to the moon, but fail the war on obesity and cancer?

Isn’t it oddly shocking that America is so well-advanced in everything except health and fitness? While the fitness industry tells us to count calories and exercise for fat loss, we grow fatter and fatter as a nation.

Running parallel to the fitness industry is the fast food chains, doing their best to keep on the top of “healthy eating” trend. It seems the fast-food industry can tailor to anyone’s dieting needs with “fat-free,” “low-calorie,” and “low-carb” menu items.

Today, fast food is considered a normal eating venture among the average person. People aren’t just eating out on special occasions or weekends anymore; they are eating out all the time. But is it the calories in fast food that’s so destructive to the body and waistline or does the problem lie deeper?

    Fast Food and Obesity

Fast food is simply tasty, ready-cooked meals packed to go. Fast food has been around since the early 1900’s, but its popularity sparked and grew in the 1940’s with the birth of good ole’ Mickey D’s; quick food priced cheaply. Within a few years similar fast-food operations popped up everywhere in the blink of an eye.

With the compelling rise in fast-food restaurants since the 1940’s, oddly, too, started the rise in obesity and cancer during that same time period. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to do the math and link fast food to the obesity and cancer crisis.

Fast Food and its Nutritional Value

To say fast food has a “nutritional value” is an oxymoron. There is absolutely nothing nutritional about fast food. Fast food simply feeds hunger and/or your immediate craving. Fast food does not feed your body in the form of usable lasting energy or building materials, the essence your body thrives on for life itself.

Fast food is highly processed with a wide array of additives. The concept of fast food is obviously, food ready-to-eat and served quickly. To ensure fast food’s low cost to the consumer, the fast food products are made with highly-processed ingredients to give it shelf-life, to hold consistency, and to enhance flavor. Fast food is altered from its original healthy form it was meant to nourish the body with, to a denatured form that lacks any nutritional value whatsoever.

According to Diana Schwarzbein, M.D., “The FDA Total Diet Study found that fast-food hamburgers, across the board, contained 113 different pesticide residues.” So my question is why does the FDA want to regulate the sale of vitamins, minerals, and herbs that are actually beneficial for the body when there’s a linking fast-food / cancer / obesity crisis on our hands?

The Unwritten Rules of Online Dating

    without comments

The number of online dating sites have proliferated to such extend that they are virtually everywhere and in great numbers. Online dating opens a window allowing the vast numbers of potential partners to meet each other, is a stress free and affordable way of meeting people, making friends.

Meeting a woman online is harder than meeting her in real life. In face-to-face meeting you can use the body language, voice tone, and also eye contacts in your favor, but with online dating this is not possible. If you don’t play the few cards you have right, she will skip right past your email, and this time you won’t have a second chance.

Even though, more and more singles are using online dating services. But not many of them know that there are some unwritten rules, tips and tricks that will make the online dating experience much better. So, these are some of the unwritten rules that you should know before starting dating online.

First and the most important is that you don’t have to expect from the beginning at too much. Online dating is a process. So, it takes time, a lot of patience to search, screen and email, chat and date before you succeed. Remember that, and don’t be too enthusiastic when you see an interesting profile. The big mistake made by the people who use online dating services is that if they fail once in meeting a compatible person as a partner, they give up and try something else. But, as I said, you have to have patience and to go on several dates to find the perfect match.

Take some time to respond. Maybe your instincts will probably tell you to respond to emails from prospective dates right away. If you reply to your email too soon, this will be perceived as being desperate for a date, and we all know and avoid desperate people because at a certain moment they can become too possessive. If you wait for some time, you can improve your standings; so you have time to compose an appropriate response, and also to research the person who seems interested by your profile to see if you’d be a possible match.

Take things slow. The secret to turning an internet dating site attraction in a lasting relationship is to go at a realistic pace. Usually online dating sites tend to create quick connections between people that crash and burn; so to make things last, slow them down.

When you compose your profile you have to be honest, think about the fact that the truth will be revealed once you meet her in person. Trust is important in any relationship so it’s better to not risk sabotaging. If you have to meet her someday, she will feel disappointed when she’ll see that you laid her.

If you decide to answer at an email keep the tone light and friendly. Keep your dialog simple and general at first, while getting to know the person you are communicating with. Be conservative with what you write, remember that until you really come to know the person to the other end, don’t give out private information?s about yourself, such as home address, place of employment…Also is preferable to avoid talking about sex on your online profile and while you chat to potential mates.
