Is the Word Christmas Politically Correct?

without comments

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I am not sure about the former.

Albert Einstein.

A number of commercial establishments in the empire have removed the word Christmas from their greetings in an effort to comply with some absurd application of political correctness.

Imagine the collective surprise of an eager-to- buy public when they are faced by a store-engineered campaign aimed at eliminating the word Christmas from its greetings, wrapping paper, decorations and all the other enticements to celebrate this important holiday by buying and buying and buying.

Christmas has been traditionally a holiday of family festivities, where the exchange of gifts, originated by three traveling Magi some two thousand years ago, celebrated the most important event in Christianity.

So, it is odd that those who would benefit the most

from the celebration of Christmas, oppose its very mention by relying on the doubtful premise that non-Christians might find such celebration objectionable.

What do you think about this? asked my wife, who seldom misses those incidents that attempt against decency and common sense. Before I could answer she added:

What makes people adopt such extreme, if not ridiculous attitudes?

Idiocy, I answered knowing that she would not be satisfied with that reply. Actually, I was not either. Carrying an idiotic notion such as that adopted by the commercial firms demands a bit more than a simple label.

Our society seems to produce an endless collection of inanities, absurdities and just plain idiocies. Have you stopped to think about those improvised regulations that affect pets, cross eyed people, bald people, stutterers, airline pilots, one way moving stairways and just about anything that can be opposed, contradicted or maligned? If you have, it will not hurt to be reminded that it is too bad that stupidity isn’t painful, as Szandor La Vey wrote.

Coming back to the elimination of the word Christmas by those merchants, it will be well to remember that the American people are generous and will forgive almost any weakness, with the possible exception of idiocy and stupidity.

Idiocy is a peculiar characteristic, state of mind or genetic quality that according to reliable statistics never fails to affect a part of the population of any community. Here I do not refer to mentally handicapped people who are cruelly called idiots by callous and insensitive people.

I refer as idiots those persons who disdain or reject established conventions and, like many others, half-heartedly believe in their own righteousness. This type of idiocy is everywhere. It is contagious. It is annoying and appears when least expected. Fortunately it is not fatal and can be, with the proper precautions, be ignored or denied. It can not be cured.

The idiots target this time is Christmas. Its intention exceeds the idiocy level and enters the selected circle of those affected by crass stupidity. We shall offer no additional comment on this. The worrisome part is that this kind of protest is likely to extend to other dates and events.

Next they will think up something objectionable about the New Year (our Gregorian calendar is not the only one) and we are liable to offend those who celebrate the 7,633th year of the Blue Flea calendar.

They will not miss our cherished national anthem. Why vilify those British cannonries making whoopee above Chesapeake Bay? How about Martin Luther King the Third Birthday? And forget about Governor Wallace? Or in the same trend of stupidity how about Washington’s Birthday ? What would King George descendants say?

We can go on anticipating the displays of idiocy until hell freezes over. Or better yet, and in order to avoid more idiocy to flourish when hell is mentioned, we better say until a serious temperature drop will cause an indiscriminate slow down of molecular activity at or around minus 273 degrees Centigrade and turn a warm place of punishment into an uncomfortable slab of ice. Not that there is anything wrong with that!

How Women Can Face The Fear And Anxiety Of The Unknown

    without comments

All most everybody worries about what will happen in the future. The prospect of not knowing if something good or bad will happen to you in the near future can produce a lot of fear and anxiety. As a result, here is a list of techniques and suggestions on how to manage this fear of dealing with the unknown.

Remember is that no one can predict the future with one hundred percent certainty. Even if the thing that you feared does happen there are circumstances and factors that you cannot predict which can be used to your advantage. For instance, you miss the deadline for a project you have been working on for the last few months. Everything you feared is coming true. Suddenly, your boss comes to your office and tells you that the deadline is extended and that he forgot to tell you the day before. This unknown factor changes everything. Remember: we may be ninety-nine percent correct in predicting the future, but all it takes is for that one percent to make a world of difference.

Learn to take it one day at a time. Instead of worrying about how you will get through the rest of the week or coming month, try to focus on today. Each day can provide us with different opportunities to learn new things and that includes learning how to deal with your problems. When the time comes, hopefully you will have learned the skills to deal with your situation.

Sometimes, we can get anxious over a task that we will have to perform in the near future. When this happens, visualize yourself doing the task in your mind. For instance, you and your team have to play in the championship volleyball game in front of a large group of people in the next few days. Before the big day comes, imagine yourself playing the game in your mind. Imagine that you are playing in front of a large audience. By playing the game in your mind, you will be better prepared to perform for real when the time comes. Self-Visualization is a great way to reduce the fear and stress of a coming situation and increase your self-confidence.

Remember take a deep breath and try to find something to do to get your mind off of you anxieties and stresses. A person could take a walk, listen to some music, read the newspaper, watch TV, play on the computer or do an activity that will give them a fresh perspective on things. This will distract you from your current worries.

A lot of times, our worrying can make the problem even worse. All the worrying in the world will not change anything. All you can do is to do your best each day, hope for the best, and when something does happen, take it in stride. If you still have trouble managing your anxiety of the future, then talking to a counselor or clergyman can be of great help. There are ways to help manage your fear and all it takes is some effort to find those answers.

    About Home Theater Systems

    without comments

Home theater systems are a setup in homes installed for the purpose of providing cinema quality video and audio reproductions. It includes television and video equipment with special audio systems incorporated – like surround sound. The objective of recreating the feel of being in a movie theater is actualized by placement of a movie screen across the wall, use of projectors and speakers having surround sound and special furnishings like upholstered seats and couches. For a standard theater system the video display unit should be at least 40 inches and the number of speakers involved in the surround sound system should be at least five.

Features and utility of home theater systems

The theater provides much better movie viewing experience than typical television screens. Television screens are typically square shaped and fail to provide the realism observed in movie screens. These systems are designed to take care of this and provides a worthwhile re-creation of the movie house.

Theater arrangements may comprise of a simple setup involving a DVD player fed through a stereo system and a larger, specially designed television set. Again, it may also constitute an elaborate arrangement whereby an entire room is professionally wired involving multiple speakers and projectors are set up together with a projection screen.

The theater room housing the theater system is usually a room without windows – much like a cinema. Such rooms are to be found in sophisticated, plush homes. Home theater system installation gives a touch of class, refinement and taste to the room and the home. You too may be looking for securing a theater system for your home and want to settle down for nothing less than the ultimate in home theater experience. In this case you need to commission professional installers who will design the entire movie viewing room and gear it up for delivering the cinema experience.

Use of wireless home theater systems

The theater setup involves considerable wiring. This is needed to connect the multiple speakers placed at various locations and the projectors and other equipment. However, wireless theater systems have also come up now to ease out the trouble of setting up wiring networks. Though these are more expensive they often prove to be worth their value by being free from the numerous wires and the associated hassles.

It may seem like a lot of work or money for a personal home theater, but the end result is very rewarding and you will not regret it.

Relocation: Do You Know The 5 Things That Will Make You a Savvy Mover?

    without comments

Relocation is stressful. Make it easier on yourself by using the power of the Internet to your advantage. Inform yourself for one of the biggest decisions you’ll make. Here are five things that can you help you decide where to live.

    1. Cost/square foot. Median home price is commonly reported, but home sizes can vary greatly among neighboring communities. Unit cost is the best way to maximize the value of your housing dollar. Whether you’re looking at residences in multiple areas or want to determine if a specific residence is a good deal, unit cost is the way to do it.

For example, you are looking at two homes. One is a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom home with an asking price of $279,000. The other is a 3 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom home with an asking price of $264,000. Sounds more affordable, right? Should you really spend another $15,000 for the extra bedroom?

Well, the first house is 2,400 sq. ft. and the second is 2,000 sq. ft. That makes the second house 14% more expensive on a unit cost basis.

Your home is generally your biggest investment. Make sure you maximize that investment.

    2. Age range of residential real estate. Different styles of homes were prevalent in different periods. Prior to 1940, the Victorian, Farm House, and Bungalow styles were dominant. After the war, the Ranch, Split-level, and Cape Cod came into vogue. In the 70’s, the Colonial and Modern styles became popular. Which do you prefer, or prefer to avoid? Look for locales where the most of the housing was built during the time your favored style was dominant. You’ll be more likely to find homes you really like.

Residential real estate age distribution can often tell you something else about a locale. Different community planning and development customs were prevalent at different times. Look at when most of the housing was built and you’ll see when the community was actively being developed. Before 1940 dependence on the car was not firmly established and you’re more likely to find the quaint town center and homes within walking distance of small business districts.

From 1945 through 1970, we were spreading out, so communities developed then are more likely to require a car to get most places. However, developers were still laying out streets in grid patterns, or something close to that. Thus, traffic congestion is less of a problem in these locales.

Since 1970, the cul-de-sac and large building lots have reigned supreme. The increased lot size caused communities to spread out, making a car absolutely necessary for anything. The cul-de-sacs feed traffic onto a limited number of main roads, creating traffic congestion.

    3. Median Property Tax Rate. Don’t just compare tax bills. Look at the tax rate. In many states, it can vary greatly in a small distance if you happen to cross a county or town line. Equalization formulas and mill rates can get complicated. Make it easy on yourself. Just divide the annual tax bill into the asking price to get an idea of the effective tax rate. Compare it across all properties you may be considering purchasing. If the rate seems really high or low for a particular property, ask your real estate agent to help you find out why.

Keep in mind, if you move into an area with lower taxes but a higher tax rate, you may find yourself struggling to make the tax payment if there is an unexpected surge in property values. In today’s real estate market, anything is possible, so beware.

    4. Expenditure per student has nothing to do with quality of education. School expenditures are largely driven by teacher salaries, so they are higher where it costs more to live. Student performance is most affected by parental involvement in the school system and their children’s educational experience. Get local district info and contact them to get a sense of how involved parents are in the local schools, and what options you have to be involved in your child’s education.

    5. Use the web to get the facts on locales across the U.S. After all, the Internet is an information channel. Use it to inform yourself about what is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make. There are lots of sites with helpful information and relocation advice (including the one my company operates). Get the facts and you’ll have a quicker, easier relocation process. Get an idea of which locales are right for you before you start working with a real estate agent. It will save you time overall, and make it easier for them to help you find your dream locale.

    The Arrogant Path To Extinction

    without comments

If the richer developed Nations don?t help the poorer undeveloped nations on planet earth we are just speeding up the extinction of our species. People from the underdeveloped countries will continue to move legally or illegally to the richer nation seeking a better life, jobs and money to send home to their starving and deprived families. It is always the strongest, bravest and most resourceful that will leave driven by desperation to emigrate looking for a better life. They want the benefits, privileges and life style they envision available in the developed countries. They want what the ?have?s ? have.

Some succeed in finding jobs but many fail unprepared for adapting to a new culture, and not having qualified job skills. Consequently, they often are forced resort to crime either in gangs or individually, or they may become dependant on their adopted countries draining medical and social services and costing the countries millions of Euros, pounds or dollars. Tax paying citizens of the richer countries resent supporting these interlopers.

Those who emigrate leave behind the elderly, women and children and the sick thus diluting their culture and the ability to protect themselves from marauding bands of warriors from neighboring countries as we see this in Africa today. This results in the deprived countries sinking farther and farther into despair and oblivion competing and fighting for fewer and fewer resources.

They lack the basic necessities required to sustain life like clean water, food, housing, good soil, access to health care, education, birth control, and immunizations from diseases long controlled in developed countries. They lack infrastructure to develop resources basic to modern progress. Requirements like roads, water, dams, bridges, tools for cultivation, animals for food and so on, are not available to them.

These same problems have existed from the beginning of civilization in tribal wars over food, rivers, clean water, and land boundaries, and oil. Today we see similar problems in the Southwest states of the United States, with illegal immigrants from Mexico and Central and South America risking their lives to get into the US to do any job that will allow then to send money home to their starving families. Similar situations exist with Africans invading Europe; eastern European country citizens moving into Germany, Austria; Asians moving to the United States; Cubans to Florida; Middle Easterners to Detroit, Israel and the Palestinians to name a few.

We must learn and fast that the deprivation of any of our fellow humans is a problem for all of us. Our current approach to solving these problems is like ostriches with our heads in the sand. Denial won?t work any longer. Instead putting out fires after they start we need to work on a formula of prevention. We must be more pro-active in helping poorer countries develop their natural resources, build their infrastructures, help them learn cultivation and modern farming methods, create jobs, and educate their people to improve the standard of living and quality of life. Together we can implement actions to save our species. And together we can construct a more humane civilization.

Pop Music Bubblegum Kings: Where Are They Now?

    without comments

Pop music bubblegum kings have a history that traces back to the 80s when groups like the New Kids on the Block, and New Edition became rather popular with audiences. In essence, these were the first boy bands to hit the scene. The term didnt quite catch on until pop music of the 90s became saturated with numerous male groups, such as the Backstreet Boys, NSYNC and MTVs own, O-Town. Today, while pop princesses dictate the airwaves, it brings one to ponder, where have all the American bubblegum pop music kings gone?

    Backstreet Boys

You may not know this, but the pop music sensation in the 90s, the Backstreet Boys, are still alive and kicking and planning the release of a new album. The group, minus Kevin Richardson, has made a transition from their teen pop roots to more of a pop rock group. They now play their own instruments to supply their background music.

Through the middle of the 90s and 2000s, the Backstreet Boys enjoyed raging success across the world, provoking teenage girls to swoon at the very mention of their names. In the era of boy bands, they still hold the title of selling more albums than any other collaboration. Sadly, throughout the years, many of the group members have experienced personal ups and downs.

In 2001, member, AJ McLean, who had always been viewed as the bad boy of the quintet, became increasingly destructive. It was apparent that he was struggling with a few issues in his life, namely alcohol and drugs. In 2003, McLean made an appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show with his mother. It was then that fellow group members arrived on air to show their support for him. They hadnt been together for about two years before this reunion.

Member Nick Carter gained brief attention for dating the infamous Paris Hilton for about a year. That ended in 2004 and all he got was a lousy Paris tattoo out of the deal, which he promptly exchanged for a skull and cross bones. In May of 2006, member, Brian Littrell released his first solo project, Welcome Home, which made a respected showing on the Billboard Christian Charts.

    NSYNC

Feverishly trying to catch up with the popular Backstreet Boys, NSYNC enjoyed an admirable amount of success with numerous pop music hits. Shifting from teen pop to dance pop, the group had a nice run from 1995 to 2002. As of now, only two of the five original band members have produced solo albums: JC Chasez and the unforgettable Justin Timberlake. Additional group members included: Lance Bass, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick.

As of now, Joey Fatone has made a showing in numerous movie projects (My Big Fat Greek Wedding), in some of which he has worked with Lance Bass, who spends most of his time dealing with his film production company projects. Recently, he has admitted to his homosexual lifestyle and, currently, is even dating a former Survivor cast member. Kirkpatrick on the other hand has joined another band and has been playing live shows in California.

    98 Degrees

Although Nick Lachey is better known for being the former husband of Jessica Simpson, he was first recognized as a member of the pop music boy band, 98 Degrees, along with his brother, Drew, Jeff Timmons and Justin Jeffre. The group emerged on the scene in 1997, dabbling in pop, R&B and bubblegum pop. To date, the only solo projects produced by members of 98 Degrees have come from Nick Lachey (2003 and 2006) and Jeff Timmons (2004).

The group has been relatively quiet in terms of mainstream recognition, but a new album is in the works with brand new material to enjoy. Unlike other pop music groups, they intend to stick with what worked for them in the past.

What could be more safe than anonymous browsing?

    without comments

Many people nowadays have become more and more concerned about the trails that they live behind while surfing the net. Your IP address, your country, region are just some of the traces that you leave behind. Why should this be reason for concern you might ask. Well, because these are valuable information through which your address, name and even social security number can be found, except if you use anonymous browsing.

There are a lot of people that were victims of hackers, which stole their identity and these cases are increasing in number as we speak. Furthermore, at your workplace or in schools or Universities if you go online people can monitor your each step and see what sites you have been visiting. Your privacy is not respected at all. Moreover, there are places where people are just not allowed to visit certain sites. In all these cases anonymous browsing is the solution. It can protect you from people that might harm you or it can give you the privacy and freedom that you need.

Anonymous browsing has become more and more of a necessity as technology advances. When you browse web- sites, important information is left behind. To prevent that and protect yourself and family against any abuse, anonymous browsing is a must. So computers programs were created to protect your identity and reduce the number of Internet crimes. These programs are very easy to install and do not require any massive knowledge about Internet or computers. You can buy these programs that allow anonymous browsing or you can just download them for free. These programs that help you browse anonymously are like a wall that stands between your computer and the web sites that you visit. Anonymous browsing is very safe and it is what many of us need.

So how do these programs work? When you visit a web site, you are automatically connected to machines that know every detail about your IP address, browser and can identify you right away. Furthermore, as you go from a machine to another, with the help of the cookies, your surf habits can be seen. So anonymous browsing sounds pretty good right about now, doesn? t it? Nothing more easy. You install the program and you are set to go. This program stops any machines to see who you are, all that they can see is the program that you are using. Furthermore, no one will be able to spy you because if you use this anonymous browsing program, they can not see what pages you are surfing, that is to say where you are at the moment or where you are going. The reason is because the traffic that takes place between you and the program that you are using is encrypted. More ironically, they will not even know that this is web traffic.

Although, there are many programs available today that assure anonymous browsing, many of them many not be as safe as they sound. You should also be careful what programs you choose before you consider yourself out of danger. You should choose the programs that encrypt all the traffic.

When considering using such a program that can turn anonymous browsing from a dream to reality, you should also know that there are some programs that need some special software. However, there is not reason for concern, because those softwares are very easy to find.

In conclusion, you should consider anonymous browsing an objective and try to achieve it as soon as possible, because being safe is far much better than being sorry.
